Darkey Ephraim Africa,also spelled Darkie Afrika,is a South African politician and diplomat who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature until 2009. During that time,he served in the North West Executive Council under Premiers Popo Molefe and Edna Molewa. He later served as Consul-General of the South African High Commission in Nigeria.
Africa was involved in the anti-apartheid movement. [1] After South Africa's first democratic elections in 1994,he was elected to represent the ANC in North West Provincial Legislature and joined Premier Popo Molefe's Executive Council as Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Local Government. [1] [2] Ahead of the 2004 general election,he was considered a frontrunner to succeed Molefe as Premier, [3] but that office went to Edna Molewa,who appointed Africa as MEC for Finance and Economic Development. [4] In a reshuffle in August 2005,Molewa added reconfigured his portfolio,adding Tourism but transferring Finance to fellow MEC Maureen Modiselle. [5]
Africa was not re-elected to the provincial legislature in the 2009 general election and instead worked at the North West Planning Commission. By early 2011,the Sowetan said that he had largely disappeared from frontline politics. [6] According to Africa,he was designated for diplomatic service in 2015 and was initially asked to go to Portugal but preferred an African posting. [1] By 2016 he had presented his credentials as Consul-General of the South African High Commission in Nigeria. [7] [8] He was succeeded by Bobby Moroe in 2022. [9]
Africa is married. [1] In the past he has acted as a spokesman for the family of ANC stalwart Ruth Mompati. [10]
Ntombi Lentheng Mekgwe is a South African politician who has been Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since 2014. Before that,she was a Member of the Executive Council (MEC) in the Gauteng provincial government from 2010 to 2014 and the third Mayor of Ekurhuleni from 2008 to 2010. She is a member of the African National Congress (ANC).

Motlalepula Ziphora Rosho is a South African politician. A member of the African National Congress,she was elected deputy speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature in 2010. In 2012 she was appointed as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Economic Development,Environment,Conservation and Tourism in the North West Provincial Government. Rosho was discharged from the executive council in 2014 and then served in the provincial legislature as a committee chairperson until December 2018,when she returned to the executive as MEC for Local Government and Human Settlement. Rosho was appointed as MEC for Finance after the 2019 elections.
Patrick Dumile Nono Maloyi is a South African politician who has been Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Human Settlement,Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in the North West province since November 2022. In August 2022,he was elected Provincial Chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West,a position he formerly held from 2008 to 2009.

Onewang Rebecca Kasienyane was a South African politician who served as the North West's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Health and Social Development from May 2009 to November 2010. She represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature from May 2009 until her death in April 2013. Before that,she was a Member of the National Assembly from 1999 to 2009. She was also a prominent leader of the ANC Women's League in the North West.

Between 2014 and 2019,she served in the North West Executive Council under Premiers Supra Mahumapelo and Job Mokgoro:she served as the North West's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Social Development from 2014 to 2016 and 2018 to 2019 and as MEC for Local Government and Human Settlement from 2016 to 2018.
Nikiwe Julia Num,also known as Nikiwe Mangqo,is a South African politician who has served as Mayor of the North West's Dr Kenneth Kaundra District Municipality since 2021. She formerly served in the North West Provincial Legislature,representing the African National Congress (ANC) from 2004 to 2008 and then the Congress of the People (Cope) from 2009 to 2014. She has since rejoined the ANC,which nominated her to her current office during the 2021 local elections.
Frans Phenye Vilakazi is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature until 2009,when he did not gain re-election. He also served in the North West Executive Council:under Premier Edna Molewa,he was the North West's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Local Government and Housing from May 2004 and MEC for Roads,Transport and Safety from June 2007. Before that,he was MEC for Transport under Premier Popo Molefe.
Elliot Mandlenkosi Mayisela is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature until 2009. He also served in the North West Executive Council from 2001 to 2007. In July 2007,the leadership of the North West ANC removed Mayisela from his position as Member of the Executive Council (MEC),apparently as a result of factional divisions which pitted Mayisela against Supra Mahumapelo's so-called Taliban grouping. The party also attempted to withdraw Mayisela from the provincial legislature,but their decision in that regard was overturned by the High Court.
Ndleleni Moses Duma was a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature until his death in 2018. He also served in the National Assembly between 2009 and 2014. He was a Member of the North West Executive Council from 2004 to 2009 during the premiership of Edna Molewa;during the same period,he was convicted on theft charges in connection with his involvement in the Travelgate scandal during an earlier period of service in the national Parliament.
Jerry Dimotana Thibedi is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 2010 to 2019 and in the North West Provincial Legislature from 1994 to 2009. He was the inaugural Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature between 1994 and 1999 and subsequently served in the North West Executive Council between 1999 and 2009 under Premiers Popo Molefe and Edna Molewa.
Oabetswe Johannes Tselapedi was a South African politician who served in the North West Provincial Legislature. He was the second Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature from 1999 to 2004 and then was the North West's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education from April 2004 until November 2010,when he was fired by newly elected Premier Thandi Modise.
Howard Debeza Yawa is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature and North West Executive Council. Under Premier Edna Molewa,he served as Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Public Works from April 2004 until May 2007 and as MEC for Local Government and Housing from May 2007 until May 2009. After the 2009 general election,he served as MEC for Public Safety under Premier Maureen Modiselle. He was fired from the latter position in November 2010 by Modiselle's successor,Thandi Modise.
Hlomane Patrick Chauke is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2010 and later from 2016 to 2019. In the interim,he served in the North West Provincial Legislature from 2010 to 2014,including as the North West's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Sports,Arts and Culture from November 2010 to May 2012 under Premier Thandi Modise. He failed to gain re-election to the National Assembly in the 2019 general election.
Mahlomola Johnson "Jomo" Khasu is a South African politician,diplomat and civil servant who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 1994 to 1999. After that he served in the North West Provincial Legislature,where he was a member of the North West Executive Council until Premier Popo Molefe fired him in January 2001. He was a member of the United Democratic Front national executive committee during the 1980s and later served as South African Ambassador to Gabon.
