Das Rendezvous, Op. 78, is a chamber opera in one act by Giselher Klebe, to a libretto by his wife Lore Klebe, based on a satire by Mikhail Zoshchenko. The opera was premiered in 1977, for the 125th anniversary of the Staatsoper Hannover.
Klebe composed the opera for the 125th anniversary of the opera house of the Staatsoper Hannover in 1977, which was celebrated with three commissions of new works, also Wolfgang Rihm's Faust und Yorick and Karlheinz Stockhausen's Jubiläum for large orchestra. [1] Klebe's wife, Lore Klebe, wrote the libretto [2] based on the satiric story [1] Ein spaßiges Abenteuer (A funny adventure) by Mikhail Zoshchenko. [2] It was Klebe's first comic opera. [3]
The opera was premiered at the opera house in October 1977, staged by Günter Roth and conducted by Hans Herbert Jöris. [2] A reviewer of Die Zeit described it as a burlesque about the possibility, forms and consequences of a liberation of the norms of marriage ("eine Burleske über die Möglichkeit, die Formen und die Folgen einer Liberalisierung strenger Ehe-Normen"). [1] Meetings between three men and three women are treated with irony. Klebe's music has been described as a chamber opera with dramatic drive and economically used sound effects, rhythms and accents. [1]

He premiered music in opera and concert, such as Giselher Klebe's Die tödlichen Wünsche, Aribert Reimann's Melusine, Nicolas Nabokov's Love's Labour's Lost, and Wilhelm Killmayer's song cycle Tre Canti di Leopardi.
Rudolf Sellner, born Gustav Rudolf Sellner was a German actor, dramaturge, stage director, and intendant. He represented in the 1950s a radical Instrumentales Theater. After decades of acting and directing plays, he turned to staging operas, and was a long-time intendant of the Deutsche Oper Berlin from 1961, when the Berlin Wall was built. He staged notable world premieres, including Ernst Barlach's play Der Graf von Ratzeburg in 1951, Ionesco's Mörder ohne Bezahlung in 1958, Giselher Klebe's Alkmene in 1961 for the opening of the Deutsche Oper, and Aribert Reimann's opera Melusine in 1971.
Hans Herbert Jöris was a German conductor and academic teacher who worked at the Theater Dortmund and the Staatsoper Hannover and taught at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover.
