David Spencer Burns,Lord Burns (born 1952) is a Senator of the College of Justice.
Burns was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1977 and became a Queen's Counsel in 1991. Before admission,he worked as a legal assistant in New York and California. He practiced family,personal injury and planning. Between 1989 and 1991,he was full-time Advocate Depute. He was appointed Deputy Commissioner of Social Security. During the Lockerbie trial (2000–2002),Burns was one of the advocates representing Abdelbaset al-Megrahi.
Burns served as a temporary judge from 2002 to 2005,and he became a part-time sheriff in 2007. On 1 June 2012,it was announced he had been appointed a Senator of the College of Justice, [2] and he took up the post on 12 July 2012. [3]
Colin Boyd,Baron Boyd of Duncansby,is a Scottish judge who has been a Senator of the College of Justice since June 2012. He was Lord Advocate for Scotland from 24 February 2000 until his resignation on 4 October 2006. On 11 April 2006,Downing Street announced that Colin Boyd would take a seat as a crossbench life peer;however,he took the Labour whip after resigning as Lord Advocate. He was formally introduced in the House of Lords on 3 July 2006. On the day SNP leader Alex Salmond was elected First Minister of Scotland,it was reported that Boyd was quitting the Scottish Bar to become a part-time consultant with public law solicitors,Dundas &Wilson. He told the Glasgow Herald,"This is a first. I don't think a Lord Advocate has ever done this—left the Bar and become a solicitor."
Brian Gill,Lord Gill,is a retired Scottish judge and a legal academic. He served as Lord President and Lord Justice General from June 2012 until May 2015. Gill previously served as Lord Justice Clerk from 2001 to 2012,and as Chairman of the Scottish Law Commission from 1996 to 2001. As an advocate,he practised principally in agricultural law and is the author of The Law of Agricultural Holdings in Scotland. In 2007–2009,Gill undertook a far-reaching review of the civil courts system in Scotland,recommending a shift of much of the workload of the Court of Session to Scotland's local sheriff courts.
