David Deng Athorbei (c. 1949 near Yirol,Lakes State),also sometimes wrongly referred to as David Deng Athorbie,is a South Sudanese politician and civil servant. Presently he is a member of parliament representing Yirol West. He has been Minister for Finance and Economic Planning,Minister of Roads,and Minister of Electricity and Dams in independent South Sudan.
David Deng Athorbei is born in 1949 (officially estimated age) in a village near the town of Yirol. Lakes State. He is a member of the Dinka ethnic group. He started his secondary school education in Rumbek,but completed it in Khartoum. He studied Business Administration at the University of Khartoum and received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in 1973. While working for the local government offices of Upper Nile province and Bahr El Ghazal province,he followed diploma courses at the University of Birmingham (Development Administration,1979) and the University of Manchester (Local Planning,1984). From 1987 to 1989 he worked for the relief organization Band Aid of Bob Geldof at their Khartoum office. As of mid 1989 David Deng Athorbei worked for the UNDP in Ethiopia for one year,after which he joined the SPLM.
After the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005 in Nairobi which ended the Second Sudanese Civil War and established the semi-autonomous Government of Southern Sudan in Juba,David Athorbei has been Minister of Labour,Public Service &Human Resource Development (2005 - 2007),Minister of Transport and Roads (2007 - 2009),and Minister of Finance and Economic Planning (2009-2011). [1] [2] [3] [4] At the end of the latter period David Deng Athorbei printed the new South Sudanese currency,the South Sudanese Pound,which carries his signature as the Minister of Finance, [5] and which was introduced shortly after independence of South Sudan.
Directly after independence of South Sudan on 9 July 2011,David Deng Athorbei continued as Minister of Finance and Economic Planning for two months (July - August),after which he continued as the Minister of Electricity and Dams,2011 - 2012. From 2015 - 2016 he was Minister of Finance. [6] From 2016 to 2020 he was again the Minister of Electricity and Dams. [7]

Salva Kiir Mayardit,also known as Salva Kiir,is a South Sudanese politician who has been the President of South Sudan since its independence on 9 July 2011. Prior to independence,he was the President of the Government of Southern Sudan,as well as First Vice President of Sudan,from 2005 to 2011. He was named Commander-in-Chief of the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) in 2005,following the death of John Garang.

The South Sudan People's Defence Forces (SSPDF),formerly the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA),is the army of the Republic of South Sudan. Dr Barnaba Marial Benjamin Bil is a South Sudanese politician. He was appointed in April 2021 as the minister of Presidential Affairs in the office of the President as of 2022 replacing Nhial Deng Nhial.
Hon. Jemma Nunu Kumba is a South Sudanese politician. She is the current Minister of Gender,Child and Social Welfare of South Sudan. She founded the Sudan women Parliamentary Caucus in 2004 at the start of the comprehensive peace agreement. He served as Minister of Petroleum and Mining and Minister of Commerce and Industry. Stephen Dhieu Dau is from Melut County,Upper Nile State,and belongs to the Nyiel section of the Padang Dinka ethnic group. In October 2022,President Salva Kiir appointed Stephen Dhieu Dau as the chairperson of the Board of Directors of the National Revenue Authority. In December 2022,He was appointed as a member of the SPLM Political Bureau.

Established in July 2011,by an Act of Parliament,it replaced the now defunct Bank of Southern Sudan,a former branch of the Bank of Sudan,which had served as the central bank of South Sudan,during the period between February 2005 until July 2011. He attended Malek Primary School (1950–1953),and then Juba Intermediate School and Juba Commercial Senior Secondary School,graduating He then attended Free University of the Congo,in the present Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC),and later got a scholarship to study in Fribourg Catholic University,Switzerland,from which he obtained a master's degree in economics in 1972. In 1975 he obtained another Masters in Development Studies and Economic Planning from Wolfson College,Cambridge in the United Kingdom. In his memoirs:the Southern Sudan:Struggle for Liberty,named Chief Deng Biar Abit,leader of the Awulian clan,Paul Logali,former finance minister of Southern Sudan regional government and Akec Kwai Biar,former Bor District Commissioner and his cousin as the people who positively influenced him.
