David Eugene Lucas Sr. (born April 23,1950) is an American politician. He is a member of the Georgia State Senate from the 26th District,serving since 2012. He is a member of the Democratic party. [1] Prior to being a Senator,he served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1974 to 2011. Lucas is also a founding member of 100 Black Men of America. [2] Contrary to earlier assumptions,he is not the father of comedian David Lucas. David Lucas Sr. Did not die in November 2023 as previously noted. As of February 2024,he is still living. [3]

Ebenezer Baptist Church is a Baptist megachurch located in Atlanta,Georgia,United States,affiliated with the Progressive National Baptist Convention and American Baptist Churches USA. It was the church where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was co-pastor from 1960 until his assassination in 1968,the location of the funerals of both Dr. King and,in its later expanded sanctuary,congressman John Lewis,and the church for which United States Senator Raphael Warnock has been pastor since 2005. Its historic church building and expanded sanctuary building are located in the historic area now designated as the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park.

The "Original 33" were the first 33 African-American members of the Georgia General Assembly. They were elected to office in 1868,during the Reconstruction era. They were among the first African-American state legislators in the United States. Twenty-four of the members were ministers. Upon taking office,white Democrats,then a minority in the Assembly,conspired with enough white Republicans to expel the African-American legislators from the Assembly in September 1868. The next year,the Supreme Court of Georgia ruled that African Americans had the right to hold office in Georgia. The expelled legislators were reinstated and took office in January 1870.

Incumbent Democratic senator Raphael Warnock won his first full term in office,defeating Republican former football player Herschel Walker. Raphael Gamaliel Warnock is an American Baptist pastor and politician serving as the junior United States senator from Georgia since 2021. A member of the Democratic Party,Warnock has been the senior pastor of Atlanta's Ebenezer Baptist Church since 2005.
Several elections took place in the U.S. state of Georgia in 2022. The general election was held on November 8,2022. A runoff election for one of Georgia's seats in the United States Senate was held on December 6,2022. The runoff was scheduled because none of the candidates for Senate received 50% of the statewide vote in the general election. In addition to the Senate seat,all of Georgia's seats in the United States House of Representatives were up for election. Also up for election were all of Georgia's executive officers and legislative seats,as well as one seat on the Georgia Public Service Commission. The Republican Party decisively won every single statewide office in Georgia except for the Federal Senate race which narrowly went Democratic in 2022.
