Davis Chirchir (born c. 1956) is a Kenyan politician who served as cabinet secretary for Energy and Petroleum from 2022 to 2024.
Davis Chirchir was born in Cheptigit,Kericho in 1960. He joined Kericho high school in 1974 to 1978 when he completed. He later did Form 6 in 1979 to 1980. in 1981 he joined university and pursued a course in physics and computer science. [1]
He graduated in 1985 and joined Kenya Post and Telecommunication Corporation where he worked as a tele-traffic engineer where he handled management of traffic engineering in telecommunication for nine months at Multimedia University. [1]
Chirchir holds a master's in Business Administration in International Management from the Royal Holloway School of Management,University of London. He also holds a bachelor's degree in computer science and physics from the University of Nairobi.
Chirchir became a senior manager at Telkom Kenya. He also served as the secretary general for the United Republican Party (URP),between 2011 and 2013. Chirchir is credited for Jubilee's successes in the 2013 and 2017 general elections where Uhuru defeated Raila,emphasizing his credentials as a political operative. [2]
Previously,Chirchir served as the Interim Independent Electoral Commission's (IIEC) director of information technology. [3] In 2017 he was appointed chief presidential agent by Uhuru Kenyatta. [3]
Having been Ruto's ally for years,Davis also served as Chief of Staff in the office of Deputy President,following the death of his predecessor Ken Osinde,ahead of the 2022 General Elections. [2] [4]
On 27 September 2022,he was appointed by President William Ruto as the cabinet secretary in Charge of Energy and Petroleum,the same ministry he was appointed to by former president Uhuru Kenyatta. [5] He was later dismissed by President William Ruto on 11 July 2024.
Davis Chirchir has been reinstated in the ministerial position.

The presidency of Uhuru Kenyatta began on 9 April 2013 after being sworn in as 4th president of Kenya and ended on 13 September 2022 after handing over to William Ruto. He succeeded Mwai Kibaki. During his inaugural speech Uhuru promised economic transformation by 2030,unity among all Kenyans,free maternal care and that he would serve all Kenyans. In 2017,he won a second term on 8 August and upon a Supreme Court verdict,the results were repealed. The resulting elections were controversial as Raila Odinga boycotted the elections and as the only other active candidate,he won by a 98% victory with the lowest turn out. A stalemate would result as Raila and His partners would carry out a parallel swearing in ceremony after Kenyatta's swearing in. Riots would break out as Raila entered the country resulting in a number of deaths. On 28 March the two partnered to form the Building bridges initiative ending the tense political atmosphere present in the country.
