Dazzle Vision was a Japanese rock band. They appeared at Sakura-Con in 2010. [3] [4] After playing in Taiwan in 2006, Dazzle Vision released their first album Origin of Dazzle. They were well-known for their heavy rock sound and vocalist Maiko's dichotomy of melodic singing and death vocals. [5] [6] The band announced their disbandment in April 2015. [7] [8]

History

Formation

Dazzle Vision formed in 2003. [9] The two main founders of Dazzle Vision are brother and sister, Maiko and Takuro. Up until 2010, Dazzle Vision did not maintain a steady line-up, changing the drummer and several guitarists. [10] Because of the line up changes, Dazzle Vision has managed to continue on with their work. Past members of the band are Natu (Dr.) (2003–2004), Tan (Gui.) (2003–2006), Ryu (Gui.) (2006–2008), and Yu (Gui.) (2008–2010). [11] As of 2010 the main band members consisted of Maiko (vocals), Takuro (bass), John (guitar), and Haru (drums). [12]

Influences, concepts, and musical styles

Our concept is Children create the world. Adults, who are moving the world and society now, all started out as children. As we grow up, we tend to justify escaping or compromising by making excuses. In a pure way, we want to deliver the thoughts we had as children to create a wonderful world.

Maiko and Takuro began the band as an outlet for creation which is a part of the band's concept. The entire concept of the band was "Children Create The World" and was also a part of their logo. Drawing on outside sources Dazzle Vision grew its style. While basic influences from Western culture have impacted the band, several famous bands such as Within Temptation, Black Sabbath, and Metallica have shaped the sound and style of Dazzle Vision. [14] While the band self-described themselves as Screamo-Pop, [15] they branched out into many different music genres such as alternative metal, [16] hard rock, [3] melodic death metal, [3] progressive rock, [17] glam metal, [17] pop, [17] post-hardcore, [16] screamo [18] and forerunners of kawaii metal. [16] The band's albums each have a new distinct sound different from the last. Among the Japanese alternative scene, Dazzle Vision made an impact, mixing their strong vocals, dark riffs, and powerhouse screamo rants. [19]

Screamo is an subgenre of emo that emerged in the early 1990s and emphasizes "willfully experimental dissonance and dynamics". San Diego–based bands Heroin and Antioch Arrow pioneered the genre in the early 1990s, and it was developed in the late 1990s mainly by bands from the East Coast of the United States such as Pg. 99, Orchid, Saetia, and I Hate Myself. Screamo is strongly influenced by hardcore punk and characterized by the use of screamed vocals. Lyrical themes usually include emotional pain, death, romance, and human rights. The term "screamo" has frequently been mistaken as referring to any music with screaming.

Luna Sea is a Japanese rock band formed in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1986. Due to the use of makeup and costumes early in their career and their widespread popularity, they are considered one of the most successful and influential bands in the visual kei movement. Throughout the mid-1990s they used significantly less makeup, and after a one-year break in 1997, came back with a more mainstream alternative rock style and toned down their on-stage attire. They disbanded in 2000. In 2003, HMV Japan ranked Luna Sea at number 90 on their list of the 100 most important Japanese pop acts.

Yasunori Sakurazawa, known by his stage name Sakura, is a Japanese musician. He is best known as former drummer of the rock band L'Arc-en-Ciel from 1993 to 1997. After leaving them he formed the supergroup Zigzo, the trio Sons of All Pussys, and his solo project Lion Heads. Currently Sakura performs with the bands Rayflower, the reformed Zigzo, The Madcap Laughs, and Gibkiy Gibkiy Gibkiy.

Galneryus is a Japanese power metal band, formed in Osaka in 2001 by guitarist Syu and vocalist Yama-B. Originally the only official members, the two utilized several support musicians until bassist Tsui, keyboardist Yuhki, and drummer Jun-ichi officially joined for the release of their debut album in 2003. Yama-B left the group in 2008 citing musical differences, and Yu-To, who replaced Tsui in 2006, left the following year. Galneryus recruited Sho on vocals and Taka on bass, and released the album Resurrection in 2010. Jun-ichi left in 2016, and the following year the band released their highest-charting studio album, Ultimate Sacrifice, which reached number 13. In 2017, Loudwire named Galneryus one of the 10 Best Japanese Metal Bands.

Girugamesh is a Japanese rock band, formed in 2003. Their name is sometimes stylized with a metal umlaut as girugämesh and is derived from the Final Fantasy character. They disbanded on July 10, 2016, although announced a new song, to celebrate label MAVERICK's 40th anniversary as well as to encourage the music scene exhausted by COVID-19, in January 2022.

Shinya Yamada, better known by his mononymous stage name Shinya (真矢), is a Japanese musician, media personality and entrepreneur. He is best known as the drummer of the rock band Luna Sea since 1989. He released the solo album No Sticks in 1997, and has supported other recording acts such as Maki Ohguro, Nanase Aikawa, Kyosuke Himuro, and Miyavi. Shinya has also done session work for a variety of artists. Luna Sea are regarded as one of the most influential bands in the visual kei scene. In addition to his former pupil Jun-ji, musicians such as Pierre Nakano, Shinya, and Satoyasu Shomura (Alexandros) have cited Shinya as an influence.

9mm Parabellum Bullet is a Japanese rock band, formed in March 2004 in Yokohama. It consists of vocalist and rhythm guitarist Takuro Sugawara, guitarist and backing vocalist Yoshimitsu Taki, bassist Kazuhiko Nakamura, and drummer Chihiro Kamijo, who came up with the band's name. Piano pieces included in some songs are performed by Taki, while the characteristic shouts are provided by Nakamura.

"Kirari" is a song by Japanese screamo band Dazzle Vision. It was released on April 14, 2011 as the first promotional single their fifth studio album, Kirari. It was produced by Tower Records. A music video for the song was shot for the song. It was released on April 14, 2012, the same day as the song was released on iTunes Store Japan.

Japanese rock, sometimes abbreviated to J-rock, is rock music from Japan. Influenced by American and British rock of the 1960s, the first rock bands in Japan performed what is called group sounds, with lyrics almost exclusively in English. Folk rock band Happy End in the early 1970s are credited as the first to sing rock music in the Japanese language. Punk rock bands Boøwy and The Blue Hearts and hard rock/heavy metal groups X Japan and B'z led Japanese rock in the late 1980s and early 1990s by achieving major mainstream success.

Mary's Blood was a Japanese all-female heavy metal band from Tokyo, formed in 2009 by four former members of Destrose. It consists of vocalist Eye, drummer Mari, guitarist Saki and bassist Rio since 2012. After releasing three EPs as an independent band, they signed to Nippon Columbia for their first album, Countdown to Evolution (2014). Mary's Blood then switched to Victor Entertainment for the release of Bloody Palace (2015) and Fate (2016). They signed to Tokuma Japan Communications in 2018 and released three further studio albums, including their highest-charting, Confessions (2019). Mary's Blood began an indefinite hiatus on April 9, 2022.

Destrose was a Japanese heavy metal band formed in 2007. The group remained an independent band their entire career and experienced frequent line-up changes until going on indefinite hiatus in 2015. Although considered pioneers of the Girls Metal Band Boom, Destrose never achieved commercial success and is best known for the subsequent bands later formed by its many members.
