Debra Jones Ringold [1] [2] (born September 8, 1954) is a professor and former dean [3] at the Atkinson Graduate School of Management at Willamette University and is a marketing research consultant. [4] [5] She was selected to advise the U.S. Census Bureau on methods for improving Census participation, data collection methodology and communication of Census data to the public.

Ringold is the JELD-WEN Professor of Free Enterprise and Dean Emeritus at Willamette University, [6] where she teaches classes in private, public and nonprofit sector marketing; marketing research; marketing communications; and marketing and public policy. She has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Public Policy since 1991, including a three-year term as its associate editor. She also serves on the editorial boards for the Journal of Advertising and the Journal of Consumer Affairs. In 2000, she was elected to the American Marketing Association board of directors, completing a term as chairperson in 2007. She also served on the executive council for the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration from 2010 to 2013.

Education

Ringold earned her B.A. in zoology from Texas Tech University in 1977. She went on to attend Southern Illinois University, where she worked as a fine arts programmer and student affairs administrator both during and after earning her M.B.A. in 1979. While teaching and producing a wide range of events – including dance, theater, film and contemporary art exhibits – she became increasingly intrigued by the marketing aspects of her job. In 1982, she enrolled at the University of Maryland, where she developed an interest in investigating the intersection of marketing and public policy. She earned her Ph.D. in 1986.

Research and consulting

Ringold's research focuses on how regulation of commercial activity affects consumer behavior. Her work has been published in the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Public Policy and Marketing, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Macromarketing, International Journal of Advertising, Journal of Marketing Management, Journal of Consumer Policy, Journal of Consumer Affairs, Psychology and Marketing, American Behavioral Scientist, and the Journal of the Association of Consumer Research. In 2008, her expertise in public policy and consumer behavior led to her appointment to the U.S. Census Bureau Advisory Council. She has also worked with the Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to evaluate how regulations impact consumers.

Ringold offers marketing consulting services to consumer package goods firms and large nonprofit organizations, including the Anheuser-Busch Companies, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, State Farm Insurance and Hewlett-Packard, among others.

Politics and community

Ringold ran for Oregon State Representative, 35th District, on the Republican ticket in 2000. [7] Her campaign centered on a commitment to strengthening education funding in both K-12 and higher education; improving quality of life for Oregonians; and promoting equal opportunity by supporting pay equity, job creation affordable housing and improved access to affordable health care. Before running for office, she had served on the Corvallis School Board Budget Committee and Task Forces as well as the Wilson Elementary School Site Council.

Throughout her career, Ringold has remained active in the community. In addition to serving as a board member for Oregon Women MBAs and past board member for Greenlight Greater Portland, Oregon (2008 to 2009), she has been a board member for Corvallis Caring Place Nonprofit Assisted Living Facility, Family Building Blocks Relief Nursery and United Way of Benton County. She also has served as a steering committee member for Corvallis Kids Count and PTA President for Wilson Elementary School.

The Willamette University MBA (Atkinson) is the Masters in Business Administration (MBA) program at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, United States. It is one of only two MBA programs in the world accredited for both Business Administration and Public Administration (NASPAA). Atkinson was established by Willamette in 1974 and has an enrollment of approximately 312 students.

Norma Jean Paulus was an American lawyer and politician in the state of Oregon. A native of Nebraska, she was raised in Eastern Oregon before becoming a lawyer. A Republican, she first held political office as a representative in the Oregon House of Representatives, and then became the first woman elected to statewide public office in Oregon when she became Oregon Secretary of State in 1977. Paulus later served as Oregon Superintendent of Public Instruction for nine years. She made unsuccessful bids to become Governor of Oregon and United States Senator. Prior to her death on February 28, 2019, Paulus lived in Portland, where she was involved with several non-profit groups and sponsored a ballot measure to create open primaries in Oregon's statewide elections.

Macromarketing is an interdisciplinary field that studies marketing as a provisioning technology of society. It focuses on marketing-society interactions including such topics as marketing systems, aggregate consumer behavior, market regulation, social responsibility, justice and ethics in markets, and sustainable marketing. By comparison, "micromarketing" deals with how firms decide what to make, how to market it, and how much to price it. <i>Gazelle</i> (1854 sidewheeler) American ship

Gazelle was an early sidewheeler on the Willamette River in what is now the U.S. state of Oregon. She did not operate long, suffering a catastrophic boiler explosion on April 8, 1854, less than a month after her trial voyage. This was the worst such explosion ever to occur in the Pacific Northwest states. The wrecked Gazelle was rebuilt and operated for a few years, first briefly as the unpowered barge Sarah Hoyt and then, with boilers installed, as the steamer Señorita. A victim of the explosion was D.P. Fuller, age 28, who is buried in Lone Fir Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.

It was originally established in 1979 as Public Policy Issues in Marketing, and renamed itself to Journal of Marketing & Public Policy 1982 for one year, before settling on the current name in 1983.

<i>N.S. Bentley</i>

N.S. Bentley, commonly referred to as simply Bentley, was a stern-wheel driven steamboat that operated on the Willamette rivers. Launched in East Portland in December 1886, Bentley ran until 1896, when it was rebuilt and renamed Albany. Bentley was owned by the Oregon Pacific Railway, and was used as part of a rail and marine link from Portland to San Francisco, running down the Willamette, then to Yaquina Bay, and then by ocean steamer south to California. In 1896, Bentley was rebuilt and renamed Albany.

Margaret Catherine Campbell is the Provost Professor of Marketing at the Leeds School of Business, University of Colorado Boulder. She served for a term as co-editor of the Journal of Consumer Research.
