Deichbrand is a music festival that takes place in or near Cuxhaven, usually every July/August. The festival and its guests are generally associated with metal, emo, rock, pop, and hip-hop. Deichbrand was sold out in advance for the first time, with an attendance of about 18,000 people in 2011. [1]
Deichbrand was founded by Marc Engelke and Daniel Schneider, creating a festival highlight for young people around the sea region. The first edition of the festival took place at Fort Kugelbake (northernmost spot of Lower Saxony), Cuxhaven, on September 2, 2005, and was attended by 500 people. Acts for the first edition included Die Apokalyptischen Reiter, Lost Dayz, and much more. Daily tickets were sold for €12. [2]
„It´s a long way to the top if you wanna Rock´n´Roll!“ was the slogan of Deichbrand in 2006. The festival organization was in the red, but Deichbrand took place just of the dike between Cuxhaven and Altenbruch. In 2006, the event was attended by 4,000 people and included acts such as Revolverheld or Schandmaul. The festival was supported by volunteers and sponsored by companies like Veltins. [3] The 3rd edition of Deichbrand took place on August 24, 2007. Since 2007 the event had been holding 2 stages, Fire Stage and Water Stage. In 2007, Deichbrand took place in a new location close to the old of 2006. [4] Since 2009, after annual location changes, Deichbrand had been well established at sea-airport Cuxhaven/Nordholz. Nowadays, Deichbrand focuses more and more on international acts such as Mando Diao or Dropkick Murphys. [5]
The first Deichbrand festival took place on 2 and 3 September 2005 at Fort Kugelbake, Cuxhaven. The first edition included acts such as Mob Rules, Regicide, Die Familie, Die Apokalyptischen Reiter or The Jinxs.
The second Deichbrand took place on 18 and 19 August 2006. This time the festival was located at Grodener Deich, between Cuxhaven’s fish harbor and an offshore test area. Because of the big success of last year the organizers invited more famous bands to the festival. [6]
In 2006 the festival was sponsored by companies like Veltins V+, Gizeh, WOM, Natural American Spirit, and more.
The 3rd festival took place between 24 and 25 August 2007. The festival became more and more famous across the borders.
Subway to Sally played a few songs before they released their new album Bastard. All in all, were more than 7500 visitors at Deichbrand.
The 4th and until now longest festival took place between 22 and 24 August 2008.
Deichbrand took place at Seeflughafen Cuxhaven/Nordholz, near Wanhöden, between 16 and 18 July 2010.

The 8th Deichbrand took place between 20 and 22 July 2012, at Seeflughafen Cuxhaven/Nordholz, near Wanhöden.
A few gigs such as Frittenbude or Die Orsons on Friday were canceled last-minute because of a damaged stage. The stage was damaged by a cyclone.
The 9th Deichbrand took place between 18 and 21 July 2013, at Seeflughafen Cuxhaven/Nordholz. [7]
The 14th Deichbrand took place between 19 and 22 July 2019, at Seeflughafen Cuxhaven/Nordholz. [8] Around 55.000 people attended the festival.

Mando Diao is an alternative rock band from Borlänge, Sweden. The band got their breakthrough with the release of the album Hurricane Bar. Their main fan base is in Sweden, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Japan. Band members are Björn Dixgård, Carl-Johan Fogelklou (bass), Jens Siverstedt (guitar), Daniel Haglund (keyboard) and Patrik Heinkipieti (drums).
The FM4 Frequency Festival, also Frequency Festival or just Frequency, formerly Vienna City Festival, is a music festival. Until 2008, it took place near Salzburg Austria, usually every August. In 2009, the Festival moved to St. Pölten. It is promoted by one of Austria's national radio stations, FM4, and is generally associated with the alternative part of mainstream music. The lineups accumulate acts of various genres such as rock, electronica and hip hop, usually covering great parts of the German and Austrian alternative, indie and guitar pop scenes, but also featuring well-known international top acts.
The Southside Festival is an annual music festival that takes place near Tuttlingen, Germany, usually every June. The festival as well as its artists and audiences are generally associated within the alternative part of popular music.
The Nova Rock Festival, also just Nova Rock, is an Austrian rock festival that has existed since 2005 and takes place each year in June. It is located in Burgenland, the easternmost federal state of Austria, near Nickelsdorf and the Hungarian and Slovak borders. It is organized by Nova Music Entertainment, a cooperation between Musicnet, FKP Scorpio and several former employees/bookers of Wiesen, who left Wiesen in 2004.
Echo Music Prize was an accolade by the Deutsche Phono-Akademie, an association of recording companies of Germany to recognize outstanding achievement in the music industry. The first ECHO Awards ceremony was held in 1992, and it was set up to honor musical accomplishments by performers for the year 1991, succeeding the Deutscher Schallplattenpreis, which was awarded since 1963. Each year's winner was determined by the previous year's sales. In April 2018, following controversy regarding that year's ceremony, the Bundesverband Musikindustrie announced the end of the award.

The Oktoberfest is the world's largest Volksfest, featuring a beer festival and a travelling carnival. It is held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. INmusic festival is Croatia's biggest international contemporary music open-air festival. The festival is held annually in late June in Zagreb and takes place on the Isle of Youth in the middle of Zagreb's Lake Jarun. The festival was started in 2006 and is usually held over three days. It includes several genre-specific stages with internationally renowned indie rock, heavy metal and electronica artists. In 2008 The Times included INmusic among the top 20 European summer festivals, and it made the CNN's 2013 list of 50 greatest summer music festivals in the world. NME has reported from the festival since 2015 and hailed the festival as "the hidden festival gem of Europe" as well as listing it among the world's top festival since 2017.
The SonneMondSterne Festival is an open-air festival featuring electronic dance music held in Germany. The festival lasts three days and takes place on the second weekend of August in Thuringia at the Bleilochtalsperre near Saalburg-Ebersdorf.
Caligola is a worldwide network of artists founded in Northern Italy in the 1970s, active in the underground of Stockholm (Sweden). In 2008, the artists' collective was joined by the two Swedish musicians Björn Dixgård and Gustaf Norén.

Electric Castle is an annual music festival held on the Transylvanian domain of the Bánffy Castle, near Cluj-Napoca in Romania, and combines music, technology and alternative arts. It features many genres of music including rock, indie, hip hop, electronic, techno, and drum and bass as well as art installations.
Openair Frauenfeld is an annual hip hop music festival that takes place in Frauenfeld in July. It is considered to be the largest open air festival in Switzerland and the largest hip hop music festival in Europe. The event has been held since 1985. It used to be a rock and blues festival called Out in the Green Festival, which also took place in Winterthur. It was changed to Openair Frauenfeld in 2007. It has hosted numerous high-profile celebrities and has attracted an annual turnout of around 150,000 people. Some of the top headliners who performed at Openair Frauenfeld include Jay-Z, Eminem, Kanye West, Macklemore, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, Travis Scott, Cardi B, Wiz Khalifa, J. Cole, Cypress Hill and others.
DAS FEST is one of the biggest open-air concerts in Germany, which has taken place in Karlsruhe since 1985 and is organized by Karlsruhe Event GmbH. After the first few years of existence, its date was set for the last weekend before the summer holidays in Baden-Württemberg, which starts at the end of July. The festival has gained national popularity with its concerts, making up the main part of the event.
Razz is an indie rock band from the municipality of Twist. The band members are Niklas Keiser (singer), Steffen Pott (drums), Christian Knippen (guitar) and Lukas Bruns (bass).
