Laurence John "Laurie" Brereton is a former Australian politician who was a state minister,a federal member of cabinet,and kingmaker in the election of several Australian Labor Party leaders,including Paul Keating and Mark Latham. He was a Labor member of the Australian House of Representatives from March 1990 to October 2004,representing the Division of Kingsford Smith,New South Wales. Robert James Heffron,also known as Bob Heffron or R. J. Heffron,was a long-serving New South Wales politician,union organiser and Labor Party Premier of New South Wales from 1959 to 1964. Born in New Zealand,Heffron became involved in various Socialist and labour movements in New Zealand and later Australia before joining the Australian Labor Party. Being a prominent unionist organiser,having been gaoled at one stage for "conspiracy to strike action",he was eventually elected to the Parliament of New South Wales for Botany in 1930. However his disputes with party leader Jack Lang led to his expulsion from the ALP in 1936 and Heffron formed his own party from disgruntled Labor MPs known as the Industrial Labor Party. The success of his party enabled his readmission to the party and his prominence in a post-Lang NSW Branch which won office in 1941.
Carmel Mary Tebbutt is an Australian former politician. She was the Labor Party Member for the former seat of Marrickville in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly until the 2015 election and was Deputy Premier of New South Wales from 2008 to 2011. She was also Minister for Health in the Keneally Government. She is the first woman to hold the position of Deputy Premier of New South Wales.
From the turn of the 20th century,women have had the right to stand for parliament and participate in government in Australia. Following federation,the government of the newly formed Commonwealth of Australia passed the Commonwealth Franchise Act 1902 allowing most women to both vote and stand at the 1903 Federal election. South Australia and Western Australia granted women the vote before federation,and the states of New South Wales,Tasmania,Queensland and Victoria also passed legislation allowing women to participate in government at the state and local levels following federation. Indigenous Australian women did not achieve suffrage at all levels of government and in all states and territories until 1962.
Joseph Guerino Tripodi,a former Australian politician,was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing the electorate of Fairfield for the Labor Party between 1995 and 2011. He was Minister for Finance,Infrastructure,Regulatory Reform,Ports and Waterways under former Premier Nathan Rees. He was a controversial figure during his time in politics,known as a factional boss,within the NSW Labor Right whose Terrigals sub-faction has twice dumped the sitting Labor Premier during 2007 and 2010. On 11 November 2010,he announced his decision to not contest the 2011 state election. Tripodi had his membership of the Labor Party terminated in June 2014 after the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) found that Tripodi acted in corrupt conduct by deliberately failing to disclose to his Cabinet colleagues his awareness of the Obeid family's financial interests in Circular Quay leases. In 2016 ICAC made a second finding of corruption against Tripodi for leaking confidential Treasury information to benefit Nathan Tinkler's business interests,and recommended charges. In 2017 ICAC made a third finding of corruption against Tripodi for using his ministerial position to try to award a government water contract to benefit the Obeid family.
Heffron is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is named after Robert Heffron,a former Labor premier of New South Wales. It is a safe Labor seat,currently represented by Ron Hoenig of the Labor Party since August 2012. Created in 1973 from the abolished seat of Cook's River,the seat was represented from 2003 to 2012 by former New South Wales Premier Kristina Keneally of the Labor Party. At the 2011 election,Keneally suffered a swing of over 16 percent,more than halving her majority from 23 percent to seven percent. She resigned the seat on 29 June 2012 to start her new career as CEO of Basketball Australia,prompting an August Heffron by-election. At the by-election,Ron Hoenig won with 70 percent of the two-candidate preferred vote.
Francesco Ernest "Frank" Sartor AO a former Australian politician,was New South Wales Minister for Climate Change and the Environment and Minister Assisting the Minister for Health (Cancer) between 2009 and 2011. He was a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Rockdale for the Labor Party between 2003 and 2011. Sartor has previously been Minister for Planning,Redfern Waterloo and the Arts,and Minister for Water and Utilities in the Iemma and Carr governments. Before being elected to the New South Wales Parliament,Sartor is the second longest-serving Lord Mayor of Sydney after Clover Moore,having held the post for nearly 12 years from September 1991 to March 2003. Sartor retired from politics at the 2011 state election.
Kristina Marie Kerscher Keneally is an American-born Australian politician who has been a Senator for New South Wales since February 2018,representing the Labor Party. Since 2019,she has served as Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Senate,Shadow Minister for Home Affairs,and Shadow Minister for Immigration and Citizenship. She previously served as Premier of New South Wales from 2009 to 2011,the first woman to hold the position.

The Australian Labor Party,also known as NSW Labor and Country Labor in regional areas,is the New South Wales branch of the Australian Labor Party. The parliamentary leader is elected from and by the members of the party caucus,comprising all party members in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council. The party factions have a strong influence on the election of the leader. The leader's position is dependent on the continuing support of the caucus and the leader may be deposed by failing to win a vote of confidence of parliamentary members. By convention,the premier sits in the Legislative Assembly,and is the leader of the party controlling a majority in that house. The party leader also typically is a member of the Assembly,though this is not a strict party constitutional requirement. Barrie Unsworth,for example,was elected party leader while a member of the Legislative Council. He then transferred to the Assembly by winning a seat at a by-election.
