Del Mar is a beach town in San Diego County, California, located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. Established in 1885 as a seaside resort, the city incorporated in 1959. The Del Mar Horse Races are hosted on the Del Mar racetrack every summer. The population was 3,954 at the 2020 census, down from 4,161 at the 2010 census.
North County is a region in the northern area of San Diego County, California. It is the second-most populous region in the county, with an estimated population of 869,322. North County is well known for its affluence, especially in Encinitas, Carlsbad, Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, and Solana Beach, where house prices range, on average, above $1,000,000. Cities along the 78 freeway, which runs through the area, have more mixed incomes.
State Route 56 (SR 56) is an east–west state highway in the U.S. state of California. It runs 9.210 miles (14.822 km) from Interstate 5 (I-5) in the Carmel Valley neighborhood of San Diego to I-15. The eastern terminus of the highway is also the western end of the Ted Williams Parkway. SR 56 serves as an important connector between I-5 and I-15, being the only east–west freeway between SR 78 in north San Diego County, several miles away, and SR 52 near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. It is also named the Ted Williams Freeway, after the San Diego-born baseball player.

Established in 1936, the district serves over 13,000 students in five middle schools, five comprehensive high schools, and one alternative high school. In 2023 SDUHSD was ranked the second-best school district in California and the eighteenth-best in the country.

Torrey Pines High School is a member of the San Dieguito Union High School District and serves the communities of Rancho Santa Fe, Del Mar, Fairbanks Ranch, Solana Beach, and Carmel Valley in San Diego County. Students from Encinitas may attend as well.

The district operates 26 elementary schools, seven middle schools (6–8); five comprehensive high schools (9–12); and one continuation high school. Twenty-one of the district's schools are located in the city of San Diego; eleven others are in the city of Poway. The district serves approximately 33,000 students in San Diego County and is the third-largest school district in the county.

Rancho Peñasquitos is a suburban community in the northeastern part of the city of San Diego, California. It is named after the first Mexican land grant in the county, Rancho Santa Maria de Los Peñasquitos. The community abuts Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve, an open space preserve that offers hiking, biking, and equestrian trails. The community is commonly abbreviated "PQ."

Los Peñasquitos Marsh Natural Preserve and Lagoon is a coastal marsh in San Diego County, California, United States situated at the northern edge of the City of San Diego, forming the natural border with Del Mar, California. This bar-built estuary, previously called The Soledad Lagoon, divides a colony of the endangered Pinus torreyana on a narrow coastal strip. Three streams empty into the lagoon: Carroll Creek, Carmel Creek, Los Peñasquitos Creek with a total drainage basin area of 95 square miles.
Del Mar Heights is an upscale neighborhood near the coast in San Diego, California bordered by Solana Beach to the north, North City and Carmel Valley to the east, Del Mar to the west, and Torrey Pines to the south. I-5 forms the eastern boundary. It is noted for its hills.
Canyons School District is a school district in the southeastern portion of Salt Lake County in Utah, United States. The district includes the cities of Cottonwood Heights, the Salt Lake County section of Draper, Midvale and Sandy and the townships of Alta, Brighton and White City. Residents of those communities voted to create the district in 2007, making Canyons the first school district to be formed in the state in almost a century. Canyons has approximately 34,000 students in 50 schools. There are 29 elementary schools, eight middle schools, five traditional high schools, and eight special programs schools, including one technical school, a special education school and a high school for adults in prison. The district covers 192 square miles and employs 6,000 people.

Municipal elections were held in San Diego in 2020 for mayor, city attorney, and city council. The primary election occurred Tuesday, March 3, 2020, and the general election occurred Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Five of the nine council seats were contested. No council incumbents stood for reelection.
