Derek Paxton, sometimes known as "Kael", [1] is a professional game designer and producer with Stardock, having previously been successful with his mod Fall from Heaven for Civilization 4 .

Fall from Heaven

Paxton was the lead designer of the popular mods Fall from Heaven and Fall from Heaven II for Civilization 4 , with the latter becoming the most successful of its kind, amassing over 500 000 downloads. [2] The original was released in December 2005, [2] and, over the next five years, the mod expanded and attracted a large fanbase. As of June 2011, over a quarter of a million posts have been made in its dedicated forum on CivFanatics. [3] In 2010, the final version of Fall from Heaven 2 was released.

Paxton announced in 2010 that he was leading a new version of Fall from Heaven as a stand-alone game, [4] but later that year he revealed that funding for this project had fallen through, and it was abandoned, although he has expressed an interest in coming back to it at a later date. [5]

Stardock and Elemental

In 2010, following Stardock's unsuccessful launch of Elemental: War of Magic , [6] Paxton was approached by Stardock's Brad Wardell, and in October that year, it was announced that he would be joining the development team for Elemental: War of Magic. [1] In October 2012 the game Elemental: Fallen Enchantress was released, crediting Derek Paxton as lead designer. [7]

The player plays as a wizard attempting to dominate two linked worlds. Stardock Video game developer

Stardock Corporation is a software development company founded in 1991 and incorporated in 1993 as Stardock Systems. Stardock initially developed for the OS/2 platform, but was forced to switch to Microsoft Windows due to the collapse of the OS/2 software market between 1997 and 1998. An expansion, Dark Avatar, was released in February 2007. A second expansion, Twilight of the Arnor, was released in April 2008.

Stardock Central

Stardock Central was a software content delivery and digital rights management system used by Stardock customers to access components of the Object Desktop, TotalGaming.net and ThinkDesk product lines, as well as products under the WinCustomize brand.

Society is a massively multiplayer online real-time strategy game in development by Stardock. It is to be initially released on their online distribution service, Impulse for free. First announced in 2005, development progress was slow in the coming years, and by February 2009, the game's development was placed on-hold in favor of wrapping up another of the company's games, Elemental: War of Magic. Upon its release in August 2010, development was restarted in January 2011, though the company has been quiet on the game's status since.
