Detective Branch is a specialized unit of Bangladesh Police.

History

On 1 July 2016 Rabiul Karim, assistant commissioner of the Detective Branch Dhaka died in the July 2016 Dhaka attack trying to storm the restaurant taken over by terrorists. [1] On 12 January 2017, 11 fake members of the branch were arrested in Sabujbagh, Dhaka by the Detective Branch. [2]

Rapid Action Battalion or RAB, is an elite anti-crime and anti-terrorism unit of the Bangladesh Police. It consists of members of the Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Air Force, Border Guard Bangladesh and Bangladesh Ansar. It was formed on 26 March 2004 as RAT, and commenced operations on 14 April 2004.

Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir

Bangladesh Islami Chhatrashibir, is an Islamic student organization based in Bangladesh. It was established on 6 February 1977. The organisation is generally understood to be the student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, and several of the leaders of the student organisation have gone on to become notable leaders within Jamaat. The organisation has a significant presence in higher educational institutions of the country such as University of Dhaka, University of Chittagong, Rajshahi University, SUST, Jahangirnagar University, BUET, Medical College. Recently however, the student Organisation has been under pressure from the Bangladesh government led by the ruling party Awami League and its student wing, the Bangladesh Chhatra League.

Bangladesh Police National police force

The Bangladesh Police of the People's Republic of Bangladesh is a law enforcement agency, operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It plays a crucial role in maintaining peace, and enforcement of law and order within Bangladesh. Though the police are primarily concerned with the maintenance of law and order and security of persons and property of individuals, they also play a big role in the criminal justice system. Bangladesh police works very closely with the interpol in France and many officers work and train at the headquarters there.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) is the unit of Bangladesh Police responsible for law enforcement in the metropolis of Dhaka, the national capital and most populous city in Bangladesh. The DMP is the largest police force unit in Bangladesh. At present the DMP commissioner is Md. Shafiqul Islam BPM (Bar).

The Bangladesh Awami Jubo League commonly known as the Jubo League, is the first youth organization of Bangladesh founded by Sheikh Fazlul Haque Mani. It is the youth wing of Bangladesh Awami League. Jubo league's current chairman is Sheikh Parosh and General Secretary is Mainul Islam Nikhil.

Criminal Investigation Department (Bangladesh) Bangladesh Police unit

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is a specialized intelligence and investigation wing of the Bangladesh Police. It carries out investigations into crimes, including terrorism, murders and organized crime. It also gives forensic support. It is headquartered in Malibagh, Dhaka and maintains a training school named the Detective Training School. Personnel attached to this wing essentially work in plain clothes.

Murder of Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi

The murder of Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi is about the unsolved double murder case of two well-known, married Bangladeshi journalists who were stabbed to death for a yet to be determined motive in their Dhaka apartment on 11 February 2012 in Bangladesh. The case is still open and DNA testing showed that it was possible two men were involved in the murder.

Ahmed Rajib Haider Bangladeshi blogger

Ahmed Rajib Haider was an atheist blogger from Bangladesh. He used to blog in the blogging communities namely Somewhereinblog.net, Amarblog.com and Nagorikblog.com and used the pseudonym Thaba Baba.

The Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), also called Ansar Bangla is an Islamic Jihadi organization in Bangladesh, implicated in crimes including some brutal attacks and murders of atheist bloggers from 2013 to 2015 and a bank heist in April 2015. The gang was outlawed days after the bank robbery by the Ministry of Home Affairs on 25 May 2015. The group has been claimed by police to be linked to Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami party in Bangladesh.

Irreligion in Bangladesh is rare and uncommon. A Gallup survey from 2015 found that approximately less than 1% of Bangladeshis identified as convinced atheists. Bloggers claim that more than one hundred thousand people are atheists in Bangladesh, a country with a population of 168 million people. More than 90.4% of Bangladeshi's are Muslims while 8.5% are Hindu while 0.6 Identified as Buddhist and 0.4 Identified as Christian according to the 2011 census.

Avijit Roy was a Bangladeshi-American engineer, online activist, writer and blogger known for creating and administrating the Mukto-Mona, an Internet community for Bangladeshi freethinkers, rationalists, skeptics, atheists and humanists. Roy was an advocate of free expression in Bangladesh, coordinating international protests against government censorship and imprisonment of atheist bloggers. He was hacked to death by machete-wielding assailants in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on 26 February 2015; Islamic militant organization Ansarullah Bangla Team claimed responsibility for the attack.

Attacks by Islamic extremists in Bangladesh refers to a period of turbulence in Bangladesh between 2013 and 2016 where attacks on a number of secularist and atheist writers, bloggers, and publishers in Bangladesh; foreigners; homosexuals; and religious minorities such as Hindus, Buddhists, Christians and Shias were seen. By 2 July 2016 a total of 48 people, including 20 foreign nationals, were killed in such attacks. These attacks were largely blamed on extremist groups such as Ansarullah Bangla Team and Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. The Bangladeshi government was criticized for its response to the attacks, which included charging and jailing some of the secularist bloggers for allegedly defaming some religious groups; or hurting the religious sentiments of different religious groups; or urging the bloggers to flee overseas. This strategy was seen by some as pandering to hard line elements within Bangladesh's Muslim majority population. About 89% of the population in Bangladesh is Muslim. The government's eventual successful crackdown in June 2016 was also criticized for its heavy-handedness, as more than 11,000 people were arrested in a little more than a week. Despite the criticism from some quarters, this menace was completely eliminated with no more major attacks or deaths in the subsequent period.

Forced disappearance in Bangladesh Human rights abuse

Forced disappearances in Bangladesh denotes to the incidents of persons missing where it is alleged that Government of Bangladesh has direct or indirect sponsorship and involvement with these incidents. According to a Dhaka-based human rights group Odhikar, at least 402 people have become victim of forced disappearance from 2009 to 2017 under the current Awami League administration. These incidents along with extrajudicial killings in Bangladesh has been criticized by The United Nations and human rights groups including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), a special paramilitary unit in Bangladesh, is alleged to be behind most of these disappearances even though RAB claimed these allegations to be false. The current Awami League government denies involvement in these forced disappearances even when victims later surface in custody.

Deaths along the Bangladesh–India border

Deaths along the Bangladesh–India border occur many times a year as result of people attempting to illegally cross into India from Bangladesh, cross border firing and cattle smuggling. Bangladesh and India share a 4,096 kilometer border. To prevent smuggling and illegal migration from Bangladesh, the Indian Border Security Force exercises its controversial "Shoot-on-sight" policy. Under this policy, the BSF can shoot any person on site with or without cause. A large portion of the victims are cattle traders and farmers with land near the border. Regarding border killings, Brad Adams, Executive Director of the Asia Department of Human Right Watch state that, "Routinely shooting poor, unarmed villagers is not how the world's largest democracy should behave."

Shazneen Tasnim Rahman murder was the rape and murder of Shazneen Tasnim Rahman in Dhaka, Bangladesh which became a "sensational" case.

Murder of Sohagi Jahan Tonu refers to the gang rape and murder of Sohagi Jahan Tonu, a Bangladeshi student, by unknown person(s).

The Armed Police Battalion is a specialised unit of the Bangladesh Police. It is headquartered in Dhaka.
