Devdas Apte (born 15 June 1934 in Vadodara,Gujarat) is an Indian politician from Bharatiya Janata Party and a former member of the Parliament of India representing Jharkhand in the Rajya Sabha,the Upper House of the Parliament. He sat in Parliament from 2 July 2002 to 9 April 2008,when he retired. [1] The son of Shri Kashi Nath and Shrimati Girija Apte,he received a B.A. from Nagpur University,Nagpur,and served as a social worker before going into politics.
The Rajya Sabha,constitutionally the Council of States,is the upper house of the bicameral Parliament of India. As of 2023,it has a maximum membership of 250,of which 238 are elected by the legislatures of the states and union territories using single transferable votes through open ballots,while the president can appoint 12 members for their contributions to art,literature,science,and social services. The potential seating capacity of the Rajya Sabha is 250,according to article 80 of the Indian Constitution. Members sit for staggered terms lasting six years,with about a third of the 238 designates up for election every two years,in even-numbered years. Unlike the Lok Sabha,the Rajya Sabha is a continuing chamber and hence not subject to dissolution. However,the Rajya Sabha,like the Lok Sabha,can be prorogued by the president.

Vijay Jawaharlal Darda is a politician from Indian National Congress party,and a Member of the Parliament of India representing Maharashtra in the Rajya Sabha since 1998,having been elected for three consecutive terms into the upper house of the Indian Parliament. He is the chairman of the Lokmat Media Group. He is also the President of the Akhil Bhartiya Sakal Jain Samaj. Darda was President of the Indian Newspaper Society,New Delhi from 1997 to 1998. He continues to be a member of its executive committee.

Dr. Vikas Mahatme is Padmashri Awarded Indian ophthalmologist,social entrepreneur,visionary and a former member of the Parliament in Rajya Sabha. Born in Amravati,he comes from Nagpur in the state of Maharashtra. He is well known across Maharashtra for his charitable and social works. He founded a charitable trust –S. Mahatme Eye Welfare Charitable Trust that runs Mahatme Eye Bank eye hospital in Nagpur as well as branches in Mumbai,Amravati,Gadchiroli and Pune. He received the Padma Shri for his charitable community work as an ophthalmologist. In June 2016,Mahatme was the Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate for the Rajya Sabha biennial elections,which he won unopposed. His candidature was strongly backed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. He belongs to the Dhangar community. He has expressed support for implementing Scheduled Tribe reservation for Dhangar community in Maharashtra and is its first community member to get elected to parliament. He is currently a member of the Indian Nursing Council.
A Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha is the representative of the Indian states to the one of the two houses of the Parliament of India.
