Rajiv Gandhi was an Indian politician who served as the 6th Prime Minister of India from 1984 to 1989. He took office after the assassination of his mother,then–prime minister Indira Gandhi,to become at the age of 40 the youngest Indian prime minister. He served until his defeat at the 1989 election,and then became Leader of the Opposition,Lok Sabha,resigning in December 1990,six months before his own assassination.

Indian Airlines Flight 410 was a domestic passenger flight from Calcutta to Palam Airport,Delhi,India. On 20 December 1978 the flight was hijacked by Bholanath Pandey and Devendra Pandey shortly before landing at Palam Airport. The hijackers claimed to be members of the Indian Youth Congress,and demanded the release of Indira Gandhi,withdrawal of the charges against her son Sanjay Gandhi,and the resignation of the Janata Party government. The hijackers surrendered shortly after 60 passengers managed to escape.

The eighth legislative assembly election for Tamil Nadu was held on 24 December 1984. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) won the election and its general secretary,incumbent M. G. Ramachandran (M.G.R) was sworn in as Chief Minister,for the third time. The election victory was mainly attributed to the sympathy wave created by Indira Gandhi's assassination and M.G.R's illness coupled with Rajiv Gandhi's popularity. This is the last election M.G.R contested as he died in office in 1987. This is also the only General Election which M. Karunanidhi did not contest since 1957 until his death. As of 2023,this is the last election where the ruling party gained seats.

Maharaja Rao Birender Singh was an Indian politician. He served first as a minister in the state government of Punjab and then as Chief Minister of Haryana,and also served as a minister in Punjab state,Haryana state and the Union cabinet. He also served as the second speaker of Haryana state assembly in 1967. He coined an Indian political vocabulary Aya Ram,Gaya Ram to describe the practice of frequently floor-crossing by legislature.
Akbar Ahmad Dumpy is an Indian politician and was member of the 12th and 14th Lok Sabha (1998–99) from Azamgarh Constituency in Uttar Pradesh state in India.
Raj Kishor Singh is an Indian politician who served as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly for the state Samajwadi Party from 2002 to 2017. He was a minister for Panchayati raj. Before the government of Mulayam Singh,Mr Singh was also a cabinet minister.
Dr Ratnakar Pandey was a veteran Indian National Congress leader from Uttar Pradesh. He was the former Member of Parliament representing Indian National Congress in the Rajya Sabha the upper house of India's Parliament. He is referred one of the closest to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi,Rajiv Gandhi and former UPA Chairperson Smt.Sonia Gandhi. Pandey,well known for his knowledge of Hindi and its promotion as an official language,was a graduate of Banaras Hindu University and played a key role in organising World Hindi Conferences abroad. Pandey was also known as a member of the "shouting brigade" in the Rajya Sabha. Dr Pandey died on 1 September 2018 after a prolonged illness.
