The Devon Xtreme are a junior "A" ice hockey expansion franchise expected to debut in the North Division of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) in the 2024-25 season. The team will play its home games in the Dale Fisher Arena, which was under construction at the time of announcement and scheduled to open in June 2024. The team hired Kelly Buchberger to be its first General Manager and Head Coach. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

The history of ice hockey in Calgary extends back well over a century to the first recorded ice hockey game in Alberta in 1893. Calgary is known today as one of Canada's best ice hockey cities with the Calgary Flames and Calgary Hitmen receiving immense support from the city. The Calgary Oval X-Treme is one of the most dominant women's ice hockey teams in the country, while Junior A ice hockey is also well supported with two teams in the city. Calgary is home to the Mac's AAA midget hockey tournament, one of the most prestigious midget hockey tournaments in the world which has seen dozens of future National Hockey League players play in this city before their professional careers began.

The Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) is an Alberta-based Junior A ice hockey league that belongs to the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL). It was formed as a five-team league in 1964. The 2023–24 season began with 16 teams, however 5 teams did not finish the season after it was announced that they planned to join the BCHL in the 2024–25 season. The regular season league champions receive the Dave Duchak Trophy. The playoff champions receive the Inter Pipeline Cup. The winner of the AJHL playoffs continues on to play in the Centennial Cup tournament, which determines Canadian Junior A champion.

The Whitecourt Wolverines are a junior "A" ice hockey team in the North Division of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) based in Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada. The 2012–13 season was their inaugural season in Whitecourt.

The Blackfalds Bulldogs is a Junior ice hockey team that plays in the Alberta Division of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) based in Blackfalds, Alberta, Canada. Their inaugural season in Blackfalds was in 2021-2022. The team is owned by Doug Quinn and Jodie Quinn. The team plays at the Eagle Builders Centre in Blackfalds. The team left the AJHL to join the British Columbia Junior Hockey League (BCHL) midway through the 2023–24 season.

The 2023–24 AJHL season was the 60th season of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). The season began with 16 teams and ended with 11 teams after the surprise mid-season departure of five teams to join the BCHL. The Calgary Canucks swept the Whitecourt Wolverines in 4 games to win the league championship.

The 2024–25 AJHL season is the 61st season of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). Competition will begin on 24 August 2024 with a 35-game exhibition season, followed by a 54-game regular season schedule which will run from 13 September 2024 to 15 March 2025.
