Diane Langton (born 31 May 1947) [1] is an English actress and singer, known for playing Marlena "Nana" McQueen in Hollyoaks from 2007 to 2009 and 2012 onwards. Langton's other roles have included Kathy in The Rag Trade , Ruby Rowan in Heartbeat and Bev Williams in EastEnders .

Career

Langton has appeared in numerous television series. [2] In the 1980s, she appeared in Only Fools and Horses as June Snell, a former girlfriend of Del Boy. [3] She also appeared in The Rag Trade as Kathy Roberts, EastEnders as Cindy Beale's mother, Bev Williams, in Heartbeat as Ruby Rowan, Nick Berry's character's mother, and as a prostitute in an episode of Joking Apart . [4] [5] [2] Her other notable TV appearances have included Alas Smith and Jones , Bergerac , Minder , Carry On Laughing and The Bill . [4] [2] [6] She also had her own special called Let There Be Langton. [7] She played Private Alice Easy in the 1976 film Carry On England . [8] She appeared in The Green Tie on the Little Yellow Dog, which was recorded 1982, and broadcast by Channel 4 in 1983. [9] In 2007, she began portraying the role of Nana McQueen on the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks . [2] [7]

Langton, who began her career as a dancer, is a theatre actress and singer, having appeared in the West End, in A Chorus Line , Pippin, I'm Getting My Act Together, A Little Night Music , Chicago and Mary Poppins . [10] Her long stage career began with an appearance in Hair , in 1968. [11] In 1982 she appeared in the Royal Variety Performance, performing a song from Show Boat . [12] In 1987, she created the role of Angel in Kander & Ebb's The Rink at the Forum Theatre in Manchester, a role which she reprised in the 1988 West End transfer. [13] She returned to the show in 2004, at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry, this time playing the role of Angel's mother, Anna. [14] In 2010, she joined the London cast of Billy Elliot as Grandma. [15]

Myra McQueen is a fictional character from the British Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, played by Nicole Barber-Lane. She made her first screen appearance during episode 1796, originally broadcast on 12 June 2006 and was introduced by producer Bryan Kirkwood as part of the McQueen family. The character is initially designed to play a supporting role in her family's stories. She is characterised as a no-nonsense matriarch who is "fiercely protective" of her family and puts her children first. Myra has a series of failed relationship, leading to her many children. One of her early stories introduces Niall Rafferty, Myra's abandoned son who returns for revenge on his mother. The story concludes in a stunt when Niall explodes a church, killing Myra's daughter Tina Reilly. Barber-Lane left the soap in 2013 and Myra fakes her death after being shot. In October 2017, the BBC announced that Gill had been cast as companion Yasmin Khan in the 2018 series of Doctor Who. She appeared in every episode of Series 11, 12 and 13.
