Dilshad Akhtar (1966 - 28 January 1996) was an Indian singer of Punjabi folk music who also worked as a playback singer in many Punjabi films. [1]

Manpreet Akhtar, his sister, and Sandeep Akhtar, his cousin, were also singers. [2]

Biography

Akhtar was born in the Giljewala village of Sri Muktsar Sahib district [3] of Indian Punjab and learned music from his teacher in Faridkot. [3]

On January 28, 1996, Akhtar was killed by a police officer, during a program in Singhpura village of Gurdaspur district, when he refused to entertain a request for a song from the police officer. [3] [4]
