Dirty on Purpose were an American band from Brooklyn, New York, whose music was often described as indie pop or shoegaze.
Formed in 2002, they were originally composed of Doug Marvin (drums, vocals), Joseph Jurewicz (guitar, vocals), George Wilson (guitar, vocals), DJ Boudreau (bass) and Erika Forster (keyboards, vocals). Performing regularly in New York, the band initially garnered attention for their sound, which featured alternating male and female vocals and layered, distorted guitar work reminiscent of My Bloody Valentine and the Jesus and Mary Chain.
The band self-released their eponymous four-song debut EP in 2003, followed by a second EP, Sleep Late for a Better Tomorrow, in 2004. The latter was re-released on North Street Records in 2005. Forster left to concentrate on her other project, all-female indie pop trio Au Revoir Simone. [1]
On June 29, 2006, Dirty on Purpose released their full-length debut album, Hallelujah Sirens, on North Street Records. After critical praise from publications like Pichfork , [2] Entertainment Weekly , NPR, [3] Allmusic, Filter , Spin , [4] Alternative Press , Hallelujah Sirens was nominated for Best Indie Rock Album at the 2007 PLUG Independent Music Awards. The band also co-hosted an episode of MTV2's alternative music show, Subterranean , with host Jim Shearer, which premiered the band's music videos for "Light Pollution," "No Radio" and "Mind Blindness".
In 2008, Dirty on Purpose released their third EP, Like Bees, featuring guest female vocals from Jaymay and Holly Miranda. A final digital-only EP called Dead Volcanoes was issued via RCRD LBL later in 2008.
During their career, Dirty on Purpose performed at various music festivals including SXSW, CMJ Music Marathon, Siren Music Festival, Pop Montreal, Seaport Music Festival, Street Scene San Diego and North East Sticks Together. The band also performed live on radio stations KEXP, WOXY and Indie 103.1, and as the opening act for bands including Arcade Fire, the Decemberists, the Besnard Lakes, Band of Horses, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, the Album Leaf, the Thermals, Earlimart, Say Hi to Your Mom and Fujiya & Miyagi.
Dirty on Purpose broke up in 2008. On December 5, 2008, the band posted a blog entry on their MySpace page, stating "...we're going our separate ways", adding that they weren't interested in recording another album, but are still making music. The band went on to say that their tour with A Place To Bury Strangers would be their last, declaring, "...we thought it was an appropriate way to wind things down and say goodbye to our friends and fans". The band's final show, including a special appearance by Forster, took place on December 31, 2008 at New York's Mercury Lounge. [5]

Au Revoir Simone is an American indie pop band from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2003. The group is composed of Erika Forster (vocals/keyboard), Annie Hart (vocals/keyboard/bass) and Heather D'Angelo.
Dirty Projectors is an American indie rock band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2002. The band is the project of singer-songwriter David Longstreth, who has served as the band's sole constant member throughout numerous line-up changes. The band's current line-up consists of Longstreth, alongside Mike Daniel Johnson (drums), Maia Friedman, Felicia Douglass and Kristin Slipp.
Workout Holiday is the second release for Austin, Texas-based rock trio White Denim, consisting of nine self-recorded songs. Also known as the "Tour EP", Workout Holiday was sold exclusively on tour in 2007.

Workout Holiday LP is the debut album by rock band White Denim. After signing to the band's first record label, Full Time Hobby, in early 2008, White Denim first released the single "Let's Talk About It" on April 28 in Europe. The band followed the single with the release of its first full-length album entitled Workout Holiday to European listeners on June 23, 2008. The LP shares the same name as their nine-song Tour EP; however, it features newly re-recorded versions of songs from both the Workout Holiday EP as well as the Let's Talk About It EP.
Exposion is the title of White Denim's first full length U.S. studio album. The debut record was first sold at live shows during their spring 2008 tour with Tapes 'n Tapes. The LP was distributed as an unlabeled CD-R in a paper wrapping, along with the title 11 Songs printed on the front. This "Tour LP" has finally been pressed onto 7" records, and it was released November 3, 2008 on Transmission Entertainment. Exposion features many songs from previous releases, but most have been re-worked and re-recorded. The new album will be released much like the Let's Talk About EP, with the band reporting that "CDs seem pretty worthless to us". The digital format of the album became available at the band's website on October 19, 2008, as announced at their October 20, 2008 show at Union Hall in Brooklyn, NY. It is also available as a Disc 2 to their 3rd album, Fits on most digital music services.
Bell Hollow were a post-punk revival band based in Brooklyn, New York, composed of Nick Niles (vocals/keyboards/guitar), Greg Fasolino (guitar), Christopher Bollman (bass) and Todd Karasik (drums). The band's music was often categorized as a blend of atmospheric 1980s post-punk and dream pop, and also encompassed elements of shoegaze, indie rock, gothic rock and new wave.
