The 'Ndrangheta is a prominent Italian Mafia-type organized crime syndicate based in the peninsular region of Calabria and dating back to the 18th century. It is considered one of the most powerful organized crime groups in the world. Since the 1950s, following wide-scale emigration from Calabria, the organization has established itself worldwide. It is characterized by a horizontal structure made up of autonomous clans known as 'ndrine, based almost exclusively on blood ties. Its main activity is drug trafficking, on which it has a near monopoly in Europe, but it also deals with arms trafficking, money laundering, racketeering, extortion, loan sharking, and prostitution. The 'Ndrangheta enjoys a privileged relationship with the main South American cartels, which consider it their most reliable European partner.

Operation Axe was a joint task force conducted on February 12, 2009, where 500 Montreal police and 200 Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers took part in a sting operation. It began its investigation in January 2006, aimed at raiding The Syndicate ; a major street gang of Haitian immigrants headed by Gregory "Pissaro" Wooley that is loyal to the Hells Angels. Wooley had once served as the bodyguard to the Hells Angel Quebec president Maurice "Mom" Boucher, and is a member of the Rockers, the Angels' puppet club in Montreal. As a black man, Wooley can never hope to graduate up from the Rockers to join the Angels, whom only accept white men, but he has been described as very loyal to the Angels. The raids took place in Montreal, Laval and Longueuil in Quebec, and Ottawa and Kingston in Ontario.
The Danzig Street shooting, or Danzig shooting, was a gang-related shooting that occurred on the evening of 16 July 2012 at a block party on Danzig Street in the West Hill neighbourhood of Toronto, Canada. Rival gang members Folorunso Owusu, 17, and Nahom Tsegazab, 19, along with an unidentified third gunman, opened fire in a crowd of two hundred people. This resulted in the deaths of Joshua Yasay and Shyanne Charles, and the injury of twenty-four others, making it the worst mass shooting in Toronto.

The Criminal Intelligence Service Canada (CISC) has designated the Hells Angels an outlaw motorcycle gang. Hells Angels MC have been linked with drug trafficking and production, as well as many violent crimes including murder, in Canada.
