History

In 1999, beginning with the story The Sirens of Time , Big Finish Productions began producing a series of audio adventures featuring the Fifth Doctor, Sixth Doctor and Seventh Doctor. For 22 years these stories continued collectively known as Big Finish's Main Range. [1] In May 2020, Big Finish announced the main range would conclude in March 2021 and subsequently replaced with regular releases of the first 8 Doctor's adventures continuing in their own respective ranges. [2] [3]

A single boxset for the Second Doctor was announced in May 2021, set for release in July 2022 and titled Beyond War Games. [4] It was announced on 1 January 2022 that Michael Troughton, son of the original actor Patrick Troughton, would voice the role of the Second Doctor. [5]

A third boxset was scheduled on 30 June 2023, [8] for release in July 2024. [9] Nicholas Briggs teased that it would follow "The Second Doctor and Jamie, having recently been reunited, find themselves flung into the unknown, with everything turning out to be not quite as it seemed." [8]

Doctor Who: The Monthly Adventures, formerly subtitled as the Main Range, is a series that consists of full-cast audio dramas based on the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who, produced by Nicholas Briggs and Big Finish Productions and starring one of the original actors to play The Doctor on television in the classic era of the programme. The main audio series currently feature the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Doctors, and have since developed the pattern of thirteen releases per year, one every month with two in September or December. In May 2020, Big Finish announced that the Main Range would conclude with its 275th release in March 2021, to be replaced with regular releases of each Doctor in their own boxsets throughout the year from January 2022. With 275 releases over 22 years, in 2021 the series achieved the Guinness World Record for longest running science fiction audio play series.

The Eighth Doctor Adventures is a Big Finish Productions audio play series based on the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who. It sees the return of Paul McGann reprising his role as the Eighth Doctor from the 1996 television movie.

In 2012, Big Finish Productions began producing audio dramas featuring Doctor Who's fourth Doctor, as portrayed by Tom Baker. Baker had previously declined to feature in any Big Finish releases, but after recording a trilogy of full cast audio boxsets for BBC Audiobooks, he decided to participate. This was also part of a spin off series of the Monthly range.

UNIT is a science fiction audio series produced by Big Finish Productions focused on the fictional military organisation of the same name, who investigate extra terrestrial threat. Members of UNIT include Kate Stewart, Sam Bishop and Josh Carter

The Companion Chronicles is a sci-fi audio series produced by Big Finish, detailing adventures usually featuring the Doctor, as told by various former companions of his, with only one further voice actor taking part in the narration. It began in 2007 as a mini-series of four stories about adventures of the first four Doctors, but its popularity ensured that it returned for a second mini-series, and then in July 2008 releases became monthly. The monthly series of Companion Chronicles ended in June 2014 but the range has continued with box set releases, these releases focusing on adventures concerning the First and Second Doctors as narrated by their surviving companions.

<i>Doctor Who: The Tenth Doctor Adventures</i> Audio drama

The Tenth Doctor Adventures, announced in October 2015, is a Big Finish Productions audio play series based on the television series Doctor Who. It sees the return of David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna Noble. The first trilogy of stories was released in May 2016. In November 2017 a second volume was released, featuring the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler. A third volume was released in May 2019, with Tate again reprising her role as Donna.

The Third Doctor Adventures is a sci-fi audio series produced by Big Finish Productions based on the TV show Doctor Who. It sees the return of Katy Manning as Jo Grant, Richard Franklin as Mike Yates, and John Levene as Sergeant Benton while the voice of the Third Doctor is performed by Tim Treloar replacing the original actor, Jon Pertwee, who died in 1996.

The Seventh Doctor Adventures is a Big Finish Productions audio play series based on the television series Doctor Who. It sees the return of Sylvester McCoy reprising his role as the Seventh Doctor.
