Don Lerman (born March 22, 1949) is an American retired competitive eater who set multiple records for eating butter, beans, bologna, and burgers. He has several nicknames, Moses, Don Lerman"All American" including "The Fastest Hands in Competitive Eating", "Gustoff Zhychick" or and "90-Year-Old Don Lerman." [1]

Life

Don Lerman was born in Brooklyn New York, in 1949. [2] As a child, Lerman ate nearly everything available. [3] Before becoming a competitive eater, Lerman owned & operated his own day old bread store. [1]

In 2000, Lerman saw that a local Kosher Delicatessen holding a Matzah Ball Eating Contest and entered. He won that competition, and become "hooked" on eating contests. He scanned the internet for several eating contests, and attended several others regardless of the price. [2]

Lerman has set several records. He ate seven quarter-pound sticks of salted butter in five minutes, a feat that was included on Bleacher Report's "Top 10 Unbreakable and Disgusting Competitive Eating ppRecords". [4] Lerman has also eaten 6 pounds (2.7 kg) of baked beans in one minute and 48 seconds, 2.76 pounds (1.25 kg) of pork and chicken bologna in six minutes, and 11 burgers in ten minutes. [5]

Lerman often attended eating events dressed as Moses, [6] which was his persona of choice. [3] Other costumes Lerman was known to dress up in included those of cowboys and gangsters. [7]

Lerman announced his retirement to spend more time with his dog. [1] He continued to compete infrequently, [2] however, he eventually permanently retired feeling he was unable to keep up with modern professional eaters. [8] He is Jewish. [2] Lerman is credited with inventing the "water method", where one drinks water to expand their stomach. Lerman stated that this allows for the stomach to hold more food. [2]

Competitive eating

Competitive eating, or speed eating, is an activity in which participants compete against each other to eat large quantities of food, usually in a short time period. Contests are typically eight to ten minutes long, although some competitions can last up to thirty minutes, with the person consuming the most food being declared the winner. Competitive eating is most popular in the United States, Canada and Japan, where organized professional eating contests often offer prizes, including cash.

The Glutton Bowl is a two-hour competitive eating special that was broadcast Fox Network on February 21, 2002 and was sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating. The special, which was co-executive produced by Nash Entertainment and IFOCE co-founder Richard Shea, featured Mark Thompson and IFOCE co-founder George Shea as hosts/color commentators. The 32-eater tournament was won by Takeru Kobayashi of Japan. Hungry Hardy is a competitive eater from Brooklyn, New York, United States. Hardy is a long-standing member of the International Federation of Competitive Eating. He retired from the sport in 2005 to become the IFOCE's commissioner. During the latter half of 2004 Hungry Charles displayed dominance in eating, placing second and third in major events throughout the USA. Hardy has secured victory for six consecutive years in the Civil Service qualifier for the hot dog circuit and he maintains records in sushi, shrimp and cabbage.

Gal Sone is a female Japanese competitive eater and singer. Her popularity has helped produce a resurgence in Japanese competitive eating, or ōgui, after the outcry following the death of a Japanese schoolboy imitating an eating stunt in 2002 resulted in a three-year hiatus for major Japanese eating contests.

Molly Schuyler is an American competitive eater. In 2013, she signed with the competitive eating organization All Pro Eating.

Matthew Kai "Megatoad" Stonie is an American competitive eater and YouTuber. He is the number four ranked competitive eater in Major League Eating. Stonie won the 2015 Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, dethroning 8-time defending champion Joey Chestnut. Stonie has gained fame from his YouTube channel, to which he uploads video footage of his eating challenges.

Dale Boone is an American competitive eater who holds several records for, among others, devouring pelmeni and hot dogs. Having been featured on numerous television programmes, he has proclaimed himself "Mouth of the South". Boone claims to be the great grandson of Daniel Boone.

L.A. Beast

Kevin Thomas Strahle, better known as the L.A. Beast, is an American professional competitive eater who hosts a challenge-based channel on YouTube. Strahle started making videos in his hometown of Ridgewood, New Jersey then moved to Los Angeles, California. After several years at his home in California, he moved back to his hometown of Ridgewood, New Jersey. As of December 2020, his channel has over 2.6 million subscribers and over 438 million total views. In addition to his online presence, he has made appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Today Show Australia and Tosh.0.

Carmen Cincotti is an American competitive eater and holder of multiple records in Major League Eating, who earned $10,000 for his second-place finish in the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest in 2017 in which he ate 60 hot dogs in ten minutes, ten fewer than repeat champion Joey Chestnut. As of August 2018 to June 2019, he was formerly ranked number two in Major League Eating,
