Douglas R. Bovin (born August 24,1944) was a Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 1999-2002 representing Delta,Dickinson and Menominee counties in the Upper Peninsula. Prior to his election to the House,Bovin served for 22 years on the Delta County Board of Commissioners,including 16 as its chairman,nine years on the Gladstone City Commission,and four years as mayor of Gladstone. [1] [2] He currently serves on the Lake Superior State University Board of Trustees. [3]
Bovin is a past president of both the National Association of Counties and the Michigan Association of Counties,and was the city manager of Munising for 10 years. [4]

M-35 is a state trunkline highway in the Upper Peninsula (UP) of the US state of Michigan. It runs for 128 miles (206 km) in a general north–south direction and connects the cities of Menominee,Escanaba,and Negaunee. The southern section of M-35 in Menominee and Delta counties carries two additional designations;M-35 forms a segment of the Lake Michigan Circle Tour,and it is the UP Hidden Coast Recreational Heritage Trail,which is a part of what is now called the Pure Michigan Byways Program. Along the southern section,the highway is the closest trunkline to the Green Bay,a section of Lake Michigan. The northern section of the highway turns inland through sylvan areas of the UP,connecting rural portions of Delta and Marquette counties.
The Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad,is a U.S. railroad offering service from Marquette,Michigan,to nearby locations in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It began operations in 1896. The LS&I continues to operate as an independent railroad from its headquarters in Marquette.

H-58 is a county-designated highway in the US state of Michigan that runs east–west for approximately 69 miles (111 km) between the communities of Munising and Deer Park in the Upper Peninsula. The western section is routed through Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore,along the southern shore of Lake Superior,and the adjacent Lake Superior State Forest in Alger County while connecting Munising to the communities of Van Meer and Melstrand. At Grand Marais,H-58 exits the national lakeshore area and runs through town. The segment running east of Grand Marais to Deer Park in Luce County is a gravel road that connects to H-37 in Muskallonge Lake State Park.
Connie Berube Binsfeld was an American Republican politician from the U.S. State of Michigan. She served as the 60th Lieutenant Governor of Michigan. Starting as an advocate for the environment in planning for the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore,she also was known for protecting interests of women and children. She was the first woman to hold leadership posts in Michigan's House,Senate and executive branch,where she served four terms in the House,two in the Senate,and two as Lieutenant Governor.

Jacobsville Sandstone is a red sandstone formation,marked with light-colored streaks and spots,primarily found in northern Upper Michigan,portions of Ontario,and under much of Lake Superior. Desired for its durability and aesthetics,the sandstone was used as an architectural building stone in both Canada and the United States. The stone was extracted by thirty-two quarries throughout the Upper Peninsula of Michigan approximately between 1870 and 1915.
