The Dow Championship is a women's professional golf tournament on the LPGA Tour that is played in Michigan. A new event in 2019, it is held at Midland Country Club in Midland, Michigan. [1] It is a team event, similar to the Zurich Classic of New Orleans on the PGA Tour, [2] with alternate shot (foursome) in the first and third rounds and better ball (fourball) for the second and fourth rounds. [3] Dow Chemical Company is the title sponsor. [1]

Contents

The 2020 edition was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [4] For the 2021 edition, the purse was increased to $2.3 million, with the first-place team splitting $559,000.

For 2022, the purse was increased to $2.5 million, with the first-place team splitting $603,172. [5] [6]

In 2023, the 70 two-woman teams are set featuring foursomes and fourballs in alternating days, including a 36-hole cut, to determine the winning team. [7] The purse was increased to $2.7 million, with the first-place team splitting $656,230. [8]

Liv Golf League, a brand new international golf tour, is a golf league consisting of some of the highest-ranked golfers in the world. Liv Golf, starting their events in 2022, is notably unique for its 54-hole competition. Beginning in 2021, the league has changed with the addition and loss of numerous teams. The team aspect of LIV is new compared to other golf tours, hence it being their brand using the roman numerals LIV to name the league. The tour is funded by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, also known as PIF, causing controversy and attracting publicity to the new league. The league has a new approach to caddies, reserve players, and franchise ownership, creating a unique, team-based golf league.
