EMI Music Malaysia is a record label operating as a subsidiary of Universal Music Malaysia. Originally established in the 1970s as a regional branch of the multinational EMI Group, the label played a major role in the Malaysian music industry by supporting local artists and combating music piracy. [1] Following the dissolution of the EMI Group, EMI Music was acquired by Universal Music Group. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

In May 2023, the label experienced a revival as part of Universal Music Southeast Asia's "Nusantara Project [1] ," signaling a renewed focus on promoting Southeast Asian music talent.

History

Originally established in the 1970s, it played a key role in combating music piracy before ceasing independent operations in 2008. Following a 2014 acquisition by Universal Music Group, [1] EMI Malaysia's releases had been distributed under the Universal Music Malaysia label.

EMI Music Malaysia has become part of the Universal Music Group since 2014. EMI Music Malaysia releases are distributed by Universal Music Sdn. Bhd. The publishing unit EMI Music Publishing Malaysia Sdn. Bhd have become part of Sony ATV.

On 19 June 2023, Universal Music Malaysia announced its revival of the label. [7]

Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh bin Tengku Mohd Hamzah is a Malaysian politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Gua Musang from August 1986 to November 2022 and for Ulu Kelantan from August 1974 to August 1986. EMI Records is a British multinational record label owned by Universal Music Group. It was originally founded as a British flagship label by the music company of the same name in 1972, and launched in January 1973 as the successor to its Columbia and Parlophone record labels. The label was later launched worldwide. It has a branch in India called EMI Records India, run by director Mohit Suri. In 2014, Universal Music Japan revived the label in Japan as the successor to EMI Records Japan. In June 2020, Universal revived the label as the successor to Virgin EMI, with Virgin Records now operating as an imprint of EMI Records. In February 2024, UMG Philippines relaunched EMI as a successor to the former EMI Philippines label after 22 years.

The Exchange 106, formerly known as the TRXSignature Tower, is a 453.6-meter-tall supertall skyscraper in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. KL Metropolis is a 75.5-acre mixed development situated nearby the Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex in the district of Segambut, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The term "KL" from its name is short for Kuala Lumpur. This RM21 billion development is envisioned to become the leading centre for international trade and exhibition of Kuala Lumpur, similar to the Tun Razak Exchange which on the other hand will become the city's new financial district. It will consist a total gross floor of 22,800,000 sq ft (2,120,000 m2). KL Metropolis will integrate trade, commerce, living, and transport in one bustling hub located within the big city which will be built in stages over a duration of 20 years.
