EZ Basic is a guitar-pop, indie-rock project based in Budapest, Hungary formed in 2004. [1] It started out as an experimental bedroom project in the early 00s and is noted for being one of the most eclectic bands of the Budapest indie music scene.
EZ Basic were formed by Árpád Szarvas and Dénes Pesztalics. Their primary aim was to mix electronic and instrumental music but it was indie pop, post-punk and American girlie pop melodies from the 1960s that left their marks on EZ Basic's sound. On one hand, the name EZ Basic refers to early 1980s computers/electronics, on the other hand, to DIY punk ethics: “easy basic” as “learn three chords and form a band”.
Their early home demos recorded between 1999-2003 reflected an experimental approach to music making, bringing Primal Scream, Suicide, Broadcast, Sonic Youth, The Jesus & Mary Chain, New Order, early shoegaze bands and electronic beats from the mid-1990s to mind. In the same year they began a series of gigs in Budapest, but the 2-piece had soon found themselves playing packed gigs outside Budapest as well.
It was not until 2005 when András Tóth (former drummer of the Hungarian indie band Supersonic) joined EZ Basic on drums that their sound has moved into a more pop-orientated sound: previously backed by a drum machine and weird noises, the trio had become a powerful live band sometimes riding the waves of wall of sound and delivering delicate but cynical pop melodies. In the same year EZ Basic was on the bill at Sziget Festival (one of Europe’s biggest festivals), at Alan McGee's Death Disco and also played in Germany, Poland and Slovakia.
EZ Basic's debut album entitled Hocus Focus was recorded in only six days between 23–25 July and 3–5 September in 2007 in Budapest. [2] [3] They released it in November 2007 as un unsigned band. The album contains the song Nice1 which could be found in their debut EP EZ To Say. EZ Basic shot their first music video for the song Nice1. This song brought success for the band and could lay the foundations for being one of the leading members of the Hungarian indie music scene.
During the summer of 2009, EZ Basic started working with English producer George Shilling who previously worked with bands such as Primal Scream, Blur, Bernard Butler (ex-Suede), Soup Dragons, Coldcut, My Bloody Valentine, and The Fall. In April 2010 the Hungarian Twelvetones Records released EZ Basic's second full-length studio album, Hello Heavy. [4] [5] After the album's release the band supported Placebo in Budapest Sports Arena, [6] [7] and later represented Hungary at the Eurosonic Festival in Groningen, Netherlands in 2011. EZ Basic released a new EP entitled Memories of Spring in April 2012. [12] [13] EZ Basic shot the video for the song Sometimes I Can't to promote their new EP. The video was directed by Dezső Gyarmati while the cinematographer was Ákos Nyoszoli.
In 2014 EZ Basic started recording their 3rd album called Dead End Darling , which was released on November 10, 2015. The album features previously released singles Unnatural and Whatcha Gonna Do With Your Life?, and contains 12 songs in total.
The band released their 4th album Sissyfuzz on November 21, 2017. The neopsychedelic rock influenced album contains nine songs.

Hungarian rock has been a part of the popular music of Hungary since the early 1960s. The first major bands were Illés, Metró and Omega. At the time, rock was not approved of by the Hungarian Communist authorities. In the 1970s, the Communists cracked down on rock, and Illés was banned from recording. Some members of the other bands formed a supergroup called Locomotiv GT, while the band Omega became very popular in Germany.
The Moog were a Hungarian indie rock band based in Budapest, Hungary formed in 2004. The group is noted for being the first in the region to be signed to an American record label. The band consists of members Tamás Szabó, Gergő Dorozsmai, Ádám Bajor (guitar), Gergő György (guitar) and Csaba Szabó. The Moog have been compared to bands The Strokes and The Hives and dubbed "Hungary's hottest new export".
C2C is a French musical group formed in 1998 in the city of Nantes. The collaboration group consists of 4 French DJs: Atom and pFeL from Beat Torrent and 20Syl and Greem from Hocus Pocus. Each member of the group uses his turntable as an instrument, recreating in turn drums, bass guitars, scratching a guitar riff, or simulating a brass instrument.

:PAPERCUTZ is a Portuguese electronic music act formed as a side project in Porto that became a fully active band in 2008. Bruno Miguel is the only official member of Papercutz and solely responsible for its musical direction. After recordings, Bruno assembles a live band to perform with him which may include musicians used on studio recordings. Past musicians have included vocalists Melissa Veras, a US singer with Portuguese ascendancy born in New York and Portuguese Marisa Pinto, Marcela Freitas as well as instrumentalists Bruno Ribeiro, Tiago Morgado and Francisco Bernardo, among others.
Kensington is a Dutch rock band from Utrecht that was formed in 2005. The band has since released two EPs and five studio albums: Borders (2010), Vultures (2012), Rivals (2014), Control (2016) and Time (2019). The band consists of vocalist/guitarist Eloi Youssef, guitarist/vocalist Casper Starreveld, bassist Jan Haker and drummer Niles Vandenberg.
Eurosonic Noorderslag is an annual four-day music showcase festival and conference held in January in Groningen, Netherlands. The first three days of the festival (Eurosonic) feature artists from all over Europe, the last day of the festival (Noorderslag) features only Dutch artists. The conference is held during all four days of the event. Several awards are presented during Eurosonic Noorderslag: the Music Moves Europe Talent Awards, the European Festivals Awards, the Buma Cultuur Pop Award (Popprijs), the Pop Media Award, The Feather, the "Iron Venue and Festival Animals" and the Buma Music Meets Tech Award.
Amber Smith are a Hungarian pop trio based in Budapest, Hungary formed in 2000 by Imre Poniklo. The band's current line-up is Imre Poniklo, Oleg Zubkov a.k.a. Tooff (bass) and Bence Bátor (drums). Amber Smith were one of the most prominent groups of the Budapest indie music scene in the 2000s.
French Films is a Finnish rock band formed in 2010. After being signed to the Finnish label GAEA Booking & Records in fall of 2010, they released their first EP Golden Sea, which was followed by their debut album Imaginary Future in fall of 2011. The band released their second album White Orchid in April 2013.

The band's first hit was Take My Hand, which was a number one song for 10 weeks on the Hungarian national radio station, MR2 Petőfi Rádió.
The Trousers are a Hungarian indie-garage rock band based in Budapest, Hungary. Their second LP Soul Machine was nominated as "The best hard rock/HM album of the year" in Hungary. They are most noted internationally for their songs used in Hawaii Five-O in the United States.

Ward Thomas are an English modern country-pop duo, composed of twin sisters Catherine and Lizzy Ward Thomas from Hampshire. The band has been called "Britain's first country stars". Fellow country singer, Crissie Rhodes of The Shires, describes their music as written "from a British perspective". While people have been able to appreciate the American sound, they can connect with the themes of British lyrics." Cartwheels, their second studio album became the first album by a UK country act to reach number One on the UK Albums Chart surpassing the previous record by The Shires. It has since gone silver in the UK.

Fran Palermo is a Hungarian indie rock band. It was formed by the singer-songwriter Henri Gonzo in late 2011 in Budapest, Hungary. The band's music and style are characterized by different genres, mostly by indie, rock and roll, afro pop and even by Mediterranean vibes. The unique and original soundscape requires a bigger band on the stage. The specialty of the band comes not just from mixing different instruments, but from the diverse origin of the members. They have a vivid inherited cultural background such as Cuban, Spanish, Greek and Hungarian. By now Fran Palermo has become one of Budapest's main concert bands, owning numerous loyal fans.
Cari Cari is an Austrian indie rock duo formed by drummer and singer Stephanie Widmer and guitarist/singer Alexander Köck. They claim to have founded the band to get their music in a Quentin Tarantino film.
Haevn is an indie pop–ambient band from Amsterdam, Netherlands, founded in 2015 by singer-songwriter Marijn van der Meer and film soundtrack composer Jorrit Kleijnen, who began writing music together in their studio in Amsterdam. The band currently also includes guitarist Bram Doreleijers, bass player Mart Jeninga, and drummer David Broeders.
