Earthside is an American progressive metal band from New Haven, Connecticut, consisting of guitarist Jamie van Dyck, bassist Ryan Griffin, keyboardist Frank Sacramone and drummer Ben Shanbrom. [4] [5] The band doesn't have a full-time vocalist; instead they have guests in their albums and perform live with prerecorded vocal tracks and image projections of the singers. [6] [4]

History

Formation and early years

The first incarnation of the band was called Bushwhack and was formed by van Dyck, Sacramone and Shanbrom when they were in high school. That project was left aside as the members didn't feel it truly represented them, unlike the current version Earthside, whose name "has a subtlety and an elegance that we feel fits our aesthetic and our aspirations to make beautiful, emotional music that has real weight and honesty to it", according to van Dyck. Griffin joined them during the transition and after failing to find a vocalist, they decided to work with different singers for each non-instrumental song. [4]

A Dream in Static (2015–2016)

The band released their debut A Dream in Static in 2015, featuring Daniel Tompkins (Tesseract), Björn Strid (Soilwork) and the Moscow Studio Symphony Orchestra. [2] It was produced by David Castillo and mixed/mastered by Jens Bogren, with the cover art by Travis Smith. [4] The album was promoted by the single "Mob Mentality", which was originally part of guitarist Jamie van Dyck's thesis at Yale School of Music and featured Lajon Witherspoon of Sevendust. [4] [7] In 2024, Loudwire elected it as one of the 11 best progressive metal debut albums. [8]

In 2016, they supported Leprous (with Voyager) for the European leg of their The Congregation tour. [7]

Let the Truth Speak (2022–present)

In November 2022, they released a new song titled "We Who Lament", featuring Canadian singer Keturah and being part of their then upcoming second album; the song was supported by a video. [9] Nearly one year later, a new video for the song was released, this time featuring Keturah in it as well. [10]

In August and September 2023, they released more singles from their second album Let the Truth Speak: respectively, the title track (featuring Tompkins and Gennady Tkachenko-Papizh), [11] coinciding with the album announcement, [12] and "Pattern of Rebirth" (featuring AJ Channer ((Fire from the Gods)). [13] [14] In the same month, van Dyck announced on social media that he had been diagnosed with testicular cancer. [15]

On November 17, [16] 2023, they released Let the Truth Speak via Music Theories Recordings / Mascot Label Group, featuring many guests, including members from Tesseract and Leprous and Larry Braggs (ex-Tower of Power, ex-The Temptations). [1] [17] Also in November, they were announced as the supporting band for the North American tour of Australian progressive metal band Caligula's Horse promoting their album Charcoal Grace . [18]

In February 2024, they performed live with a vocalist for the first time ever when Channer joined them onstage. [6] Later that year, they performed at ProgPower USA and then toured with Soen and Leprous. [5]

The current lineup consists of lead vocalist Jim Grey, lead guitarist Sam Vallen, bassist Dale Prinsse and drummer Josh Griffin. Caligula's Horse achieved their first chart success with their 2015 album release Bloom, with it reaching number 16 on the Australian Albums ARIA Chart and number 75 on the overall album chart. The album also reached number 73 on the Australian iTunes chart on 21 October 2015.

<i>Pitfalls</i> 2019 studio album by Leprous

Pitfalls is the sixth studio album by Norwegian progressive metal band Leprous, released on 25 October 2019 via Inside Out Music and preceded by the singles "Below", "Alleviate", and "Distant Bells". It was recorded over six months at Ghostward Studios. A cellist, violinist, and classical choir were recruited for the production. Most of the songs were written and composed by Leprous vocalist Einar Solberg.

Aphelion is the seventh studio album by Norwegian progressive metal band Leprous, released on 27 August 2021 via Inside Out Music. The album was first hinted by the single "Castaway Angels" in December 2020, and six months later, the band announced the album and began releasing two singles prior to the album's release; "Running Low" and "The Silent Revelation", plus a music video for "Nighttime Disguise". It was recorded in several recording studios in Scandinavia. During the recording process, longtime collaborator Raphael Weinroth-Browne was involved for the third time in row, contributing with additional cello. Most of the songs were written and composed by Leprous vocalist and keyboardist Einar Solberg.

Metanoia is the sixth studio album by Andorran metal band Persefone. It was released on 4 February 2022 by label Napalm Records. A music video for "Merkebah" was released alongside the album's announcement on 16 November 2021. The 11-minute instrumental "Consciousness (Pt.3)" continues the "Consciousness" suite from their 2013 album Spiritual Migration.
