Murphy High School (MHS) is a public high school in Murphy, North Carolina. It serves grades 9–12 and is one of only three high schools in the Cherokee County Schools system. The MHS campus is sandwiched between U.S. Route 19 and the Valley River. The high school shares its campus with Murphy Middle School and the Cherokee County Schools Bus Garage. As of 2007 the school had a full-time teaching staff of 42 teachers giving an average of 12 students per teacher. It has a GreatSchools rating of 5/10 and an average community rating of 4/5 stars. In the 2024-25 school year, 437 students were enrolled. The school has a capacity of 746 students.

Sandy Creek is a 19.94 mi (32.09 km) long 4th order tributary to the Deep River in Guilford and Randolph Counties, North Carolina. The Battle of the Mouth of Sandy Creek occurred at the mouth of this creek in July 1781.
Yolanda Dechelle Hill Robinson is an American accountant and non-profit executive. As the wife of Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson, she has served as the Second Lady of North Carolina since 2021 and is the first African-American woman to serve as the state's second lady. Robinson's time in public life has been marked by controversy. An investigation by WBTV revealed that her husband did not disclose her role as a board member of American Leadership Academy North Carolina and two of its affiliated charter schools in a 2023 ethics filing. In 2024, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services announced that she owed the state $132,000 for disallowed expenses following a compliance review of her non-profit organization, Balanced Nutrition, Inc.
The 2022 Greensboro mayoral election was held on July 26, 2022, to elect the mayor for Greensboro, North Carolina. Incumbent mayor Nancy Vaughan was reelected, entering a fourth term. She was not seeking reelection. The election was postponed from 2021 to 2022 due to redistricting delays.
