"Pain" is a song by American rock band Jimmy Eat World. It was released in September 14, 2004 as the first single from their 2004 album Futures and became their second number-one hit on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. Although its album is not their most successful and "Pain" is not the highest-charting single, the single has received Gold status by the RIAA, making "Pain" Jimmy Eat World's second best-selling single, after 2001's "The Middle".
"Silence" is a song by Canadian electronic music group Delerium featuring Canadian singer and co-writer Sarah McLachlan, first released in May 1999. Over the years, its remixes have been hailed as one of the greatest trance songs of all time, over two decades after its initial release. The Tiësto remix of the song was voted by Mixmag readers as the 12th-greatest dance record of all time.
"Uno" is the debut single by English rock band Muse. Written by guitarist and singer Matt Bellamy, it was released on 14 June 1999 as the band's lead single from their debut studio album Showbiz (1999). It reached number 73 on the UK Singles Chart.
"It's All Coming Back to Me Now" is a power ballad written by Jim Steinman. According to Steinman, the song was inspired by Wuthering Heights, and was an attempt to write "the most passionate, romantic song" he could ever create. The Sunday Times posits that "Steinman protects his songs as if they were his children". Meat Loaf, who had collaborated with Steinman on most of his hit songs, had wanted to record the song for years, but Steinman refused, saying he saw it as a "woman's song". Steinman won a court case, which prevented Meat Loaf from recording it. Girl group Pandora's Box went on to record it, and it was subsequently made famous through a cover by Celine Dion, which upset Meat Loaf because he was going to use it for a planned album with the working title Bat Out of Hell III.
"You Don't Know" is a song by American singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper, released by Epic as the first single from Lauper's fifth album, Sisters of Avalon (1997). Remixes of the song were made by several producers such as Tony Moran and Junior Vasquez. It peaked at number 27 in the UK, while peaking at number 16 on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. The song contains the word "bullshit" and was not edited out of the UK singles as is typical. While performing on several UK shows, such as Noel's House Party, she skipped the word. The music video for the song was directed by Lauper.
"What Have You Done" is the first single from Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation's fourth studio album The Heart of Everything (2007). The song features guest vocals from Life of Agony's lead singer Mina Caputo and it was released as the album's first single in early 2007. It became their first charting single in Canada and in the United States. A new edit and version of the song was released in the US through iTunes on 26 June 2007.
"Be Mine!" is a song by Swedish recording artist Robyn, written and composed by herself and producer Klas Åhlund for her self-titled fourth studio album (2005). It was released as the album's lead single in Scandinavia in 2005 and released as the fourth single from the album across most European territories in 2008.
"Heart-Shaped Glasses " is a song by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was released as the first single from their sixth album, Eat Me, Drink Me released on June 5, 2007.
"The Funeral of Hearts" is a song by the Finnish band HIM, released in 2003. It is the second track and first single from the album Love Metal. It is one of HIM's most popular songs and was usually used to close live shows. It was nominated for the Kerrang! Award for Best Single.
"Real a Lie" is the second single from Auf der Maur's self-titled solo debut. The song failed to chart in the United States, however, due to a successful tour of the United Kingdom, it fared slightly better than "Followed the Waves" there, peaking at #33.
"Putting Holes in Happiness" is a song by American rock band Marilyn Manson. It was released as the second single from their sixth studio album Eat Me, Drink Me. Written on lead singer Marilyn Manson's birthday, the song was initially set as the first single from the album, but this was soon changed at the request of Manson's record label, Interscope, and "Heart-Shaped Glasses " was released instead as the album's first single. A two-track promotional disc was released in June 2007, but no confirmation of the song as the album's second single followed until Marilyn Manson confirmed the next single to be "Putting Holes in Happiness" on August 7, 2007. The song has already appeared on the radio in France, where a promo of the single has been sent out to several major radio stations.
"J'ai besoin d'amour" is the name of a 2002 song recorded by the French singer Lorie. It was released on 1 October 2002 as the first single from her second album Tendrement, on which it features as second and 13th tracks, in the original and acoustic versions. The song achieved success in France, where it was a top ten hit.
"Mother Earth" is the third single by Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation from their second studio album, Mother Earth.
In This Light and on This Evening is the third studio album by English rock band Editors. It was released on 12 October 2009 by Kitchenware Records. The band had said the material would have a more raw and anthemic sound compared to their previous work. The first single from the album was "Papillon". The second single was "You Don't Know Love", released on 25 January of the following year. The third single, "Eat Raw Meat = Blood Drool", was released on 24 May. The album also features a bonus extended play of five songs, called Cuttings II. With lead guitarist Chris Urbanowicz's departure from Editors on 16 April 2012, this was the band's last album to feature Urbanowicz.
"Is It Scary" is a song by American singer-songwriter Michael Jackson. The song was written in 1994 during sessions for Jackson's 1995 album HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book 1, but it was not included on the album. It was later released on Jackson's 1997 remix album Blood on the Dance Floor: HIStory in the Mix. "Is It Scary" was written and produced by Jackson, James Harris III and Terry Lewis.
"Papillon" is a song by English rock band Editors. It was released as the lead single from their third studio album, In This Light and on This Evening, on 12 October 2009. A music video for the song was released on 11 September 2009 and directed by Andrew Douglas. "Papillon" charted in several countries, including Belgium's Flanders region, where it was a number-one hit. In the United Kingdom, it peaked at number 23 becoming their last UK top-40 hit as of 2024. The song has regularly been used as "closing piece" of Editors concerts.
"Sex on the Phone" is a song recorded by German eurodance project E-Rotic. It was released in June 1995 as the third single from their debut album Sex Affairs. As the title suggests it, the main theme of the song is phone sex. The single reached number six in the German Singles Chart and was ranked for 14 weeks. It was also a hit in Austria where it reached number two and totaled 14 weeks in the top 30. In other European countries, it achieved a minor success, failing the top 20 in most of them. The song was later included on E-Rotic's compilations Greatest Tits and Dancemania presents E-ROTIC Megamix.
"When You're Gone" is a song by Irish band the Cranberries. It is the third single from their third studio album, To the Faithful Departed (1996). The music video was directed by Karen Bellone and was released at the end of 1996. The song was first played during the North American leg of the No Need to Argue Tour in late 1994.
"Dödel Up" is a 2000 song by Guano Apes. It is the fourth and final single from Don't Give Me Names, released on 29 January 2001 in Germany. Originally the post-grunge-influenced "I Want It" was going to be the fourth single as there was a video, however the band scrapped the video and chose to do "Dödel Up" instead. The music video for the single was a complete departure from the previous Apes music videos, as the video was purely animated, but blended with live footage. The video shows the band portrayed as half bodied pencil holders.
