Eddie Yagin (born March 23, 1979) is a Filipino-American mixed martial artist, who is best known for his two-fight stint with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Yagin holds notable wins over Joe Soto and Mark Hominick, and is a former Tachi Palace Fights Featherweight Champion.
Yagin was scheduled to face off against undefeated prospect Brandon Visher on September 12, 2009 for the Up-N-Up Featherweight Championship, but was forced off the card due to injuries sustained during training. He was replaced by Stockton, California's Issac de Jesus. [1]
Yagin fought former Bellator Champion Joe Soto at Tachi Palace Fights 10 on August 5, 2011. At the time, Soto was scheduled to compete in the Bellator Season Five Bantamweight Tournament. Yagin defeated Soto with a guillotine choke submission in the first round.
Yagin was signed by the UFC after his win over Soto. [2] His octagon debut was against Junior Assunção at UFC 135 on September 24, 2011. Yagin lost via unanimous decision. [3]
Yagin next faced former title challenger Mark Hominick on April 21, 2012 at UFC 145. [4] He won the fight via split decision in a bloody slugfest which paid off for the two fighters as their performance earned Fight of the Night honors. [5] [6]
Yagin was expected to face Dennis Siver on September 1, 2012 at UFC 151. [7] However, after UFC 151 was cancelled, the bout was rescheduled and was set to take place on December 8, 2012 at UFC on Fox 5. [8] Then on November 13, it was announced that Yagin had been forced out of the bout due to a sparring injury that landed him in the hospital with swelling around his brain, and was replaced by Nam Phan. [9]
Yagin was cleared to return to competition on June 24, 2013. [10] Yagin had hoped to return to the octagon by the end of 2013. [11] Surprisingly, Yagin was released of his contract due to his medical condition sustained in his planned bout with Dennis Siver. The move went quietly unnoticed, despite Yagin's manager providing evidences of being medically cleared to compete under contract.
Yagin faced Diego Saraiva at Tachi Palace Fights 19: Throwback Thursday on June 19, 2014. [12] Despite coming out strong in the first round, Yagin would lose the bout via unanimous decision. [13]
In his second post-UFC fight, Yagin faced Bellator veteran Akop Stepanyan at FEFoMP: Russian's MMA Supercup on December 20, 2014. [14] He lost the bout via third-round KO. [15]
