Edinburgh United Football Club is a Scottish football club, based in the Colinton area of Edinburgh. Formed in 1985, the team competes in the East of Scotland Football League First Division Conference B, having moved from the junior leagues in 2018. [1]

History

Edinburgh United were the sole "Junior" club in Edinburgh for the majority of their time in the Junior leagues, with all other non-league clubs either playing in the senior East of Scotland Football League or latterly the Lowland Football League. Spartans ran a Junior team for four seasons from 2009 to 2013, while Warriston based Craigroyston joined the Junior setup from 2016. [2] Both clubs moved into the East of Scotland League in 2018.

The team have been managed since October 2018 by Ian Flynn. [3]

Craig Nisbet was appointed manager in December 2023 after overseeing the under 20’s development team previously. He is assisted by Ruaridh Delaney.

Edinburgh United currently also have a youth section catering for ages from 5-16 and play in the youth ESSDA leagues.

Stadium

The club play their home games at Paties Road Recreation Ground in the south-west of the city, which holds around 2,500 spectators and features a 200 seater stand.

The 2018–19 East of Scotland Football League was the 90th season of the East of Scotland Football League, and the 5th season as the sixth tier of the Scottish football pyramid system. The season began on 11 August 2018 and ended on 18 May 2019. Kelty Hearts were the reigning champions but could not defend their title after being promoted to the Lowland Football League.

The 2019–20 SFA South Region Challenge Cup was the 13th edition of the annual cup competition for senior non-league clubs in the central and southern regions of Scotland. This season saw the competition increase to 70 teams despite the demise of Selkirk and withdrawal of Eyemouth United, thanks to the relegation of Berwick Rangers to the Lowland League plus the addition of Glenrothes and Kinnoull to the East of Scotland Football League.

The East Junior Football League, also known as the Edinburgh & District Junior League, the Midlothian Junior League and the Lothians Junior League, was a football league competition operated in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Falkirk under the Scottish Junior Football Association. It had fluctuations in membership and territory but had a continuous operation as the top league in the east of Scotland until a merger in 2002; it existed as the Lothians District for a further four years as a second-tier league before the name was discontinued in 2006.
