Edison High School is a secondary school located in the southern part of Stockton, California. It is in the Stockton Unified School District.

History

Opening in 1941, the school is located in a dense urban area in the southern part of Stockton. Edison High School opened in 1941 at what is now the corner of Charter Way, now called Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, and Center Street. It is named after the American Inventor Thomas Edison. The campus has been expanded through the years, with the addition of major classroom buildings and a library in the 1970s. Starting with the 2009–2010 school year, Edison will start its classes as Small Learning Communities or SLC's.

Athletics

The Vikings compete at Division 1 level in the CIF. They are a member of the San Joaquin Athletic Association and part of the Sac-Joaquin Section.

Samuel T. "Saint" Saffold is a former American football split end who played one season with the Cincinnati Bengals of the American Football League (AFL). He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifteenth round of the 1966 NFL Draft. He was also drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the seventh round with the 62nd overall pick of the 1966 AFL redshirt draft. Saffold played college football at San Jose State University and attended Edison High School in Stockton, California.

Patrick Kinser-Lau, sometimes called Patrick Kinser, was an American theater actor. He was born in California on February 21, 1953 to parents Nancy and Lloyd Kinser. He was a speech and drama major at Edison High School . His broadway debut was in the original all-Asian cast of Pacific Overtures in 1976 where he played several roles: Dutch Admiral, the Shogun's Companion, one of the Kanagawa girls and a British Sailor. "Pretty Lady" is often included in Stephen Sondheim revues and tributes, such as Side by Side by Sondheim. Reviews for the show were mixed, and it closed after 6 months. After Pacific Overtures finished its West Coast tour, Kinser-Lau appeared off Broadway in The King and I. In 1978, he appeared in the revival of Stop the World – I Want to Get Off starring Sammy Davis Jr. His last Broadway appearance was in the short-lived Got Tu Go Disco in 1979. He later appeared in the ensemble of the 1981 National Tour of The King and I, starring Yul Brynner.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Dawn Mabalon</span> Filipina American historian

Dawn Bohulano Mabalon was an American academic who worked on documenting the history of Filipino Americans. Mabalon was born in Stockton, and earned her doctoral degree from Stanford University; she later taught at San Francisco State University. Mabalon was the co-founder of The Little Manila Foundation, which worked to preserve Little Manila in Stockton, California. During her life, her work elevated the topic of the history of Filipino Americans, in Central California in particular.
