Edmund Maduabebe Daukoru (born 13 October 1943) is a former Nigerian Minister of State for Energy and was Secretary General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in 2006. He became the Amayanabo,or traditional ruler,of Nembe Kingdom in 2008. Also Chairman of South South Monarchs forum in the PGEJ regime.
Daukoru was born on 13 October 1943 in the oil-rich Bayelsa State. [1] He obtained a Ph.D. in Geology from Imperial College,London. He was employed by Shell International Petroleum Company from 1970,where he rose from Chief Geologist to General Manager of Exploration in Nigeria. [2] In 1992,he became Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. [3]
In 2003,Daukoru became Presidential Advisor on Petroleum and Energy,and in July 2005 was appointed Minister of State for Energy in the cabinet of President Olusegun Obasanjo. [3] He was appointed Secretary General of OPEC on 1 January 2006 for a one-year term. [4]
Daukoru was appointed the Amayanabo,or traditional ruler of Nembe Kingdom in Bayelsa state,taking the name Mingi XIII. [5] Rivalries between the Bassambiri and Ogbolomabiri communities of the old Nembe Kingdom date back over 200 years. In April 2010 the Bayelsa State government attempted once more to resolve these issues,bringing together Daukoru with Ralph Iwowari,Amanyanabo of Nembe Bassambiri,and other chiefs to find a solution. [6] After the meeting both kings said they were optimistic that the differences between the two feuding communities could be resolved. [7] In August 2010 Daukoru's palace was attacked by armed youths in speedboats who tied up the guards,stole the traditional regalia and destroyed the palace. [8]
The Ijaw people,otherwise known as the Ijo people,are an ethnic group found in the Niger Delta in Nigeria,with significant population clusters in Bayelsa,Delta,and Rivers. They also occupy Edo,Ondo,and small parts of Akwa Ibom. Many are found as migrant fishermen in camps as far west as Sierra Leone and as far east as Gabon. They account for about 1.8% of the Nigerian population according to CIA Factbook. The Ijaws are one of the most populous tribes inhabiting the Niger Delta region and the eighth largest ethnic group in Nigeria.
Bayelsa is a state in the South South region of Nigeria,located in the core of the Niger Delta. Bayelsa State was created in 1996 and was carved out from Rivers State,making it one of the newest states in the federation. The capital,Yenagoa,is susceptible to high risk of annual flooding. It shares a boundary with Rivers State to the east and Delta State to the north across the Niger River for 17 km and the Forçados River for 198 km,with the waters of the Atlantic Ocean dominating its southern borders. It has a total area of 10,773 square kilometres (4,159 sq mi). The state comprises eight local government areas:Ekeremor,Kolokuma/Opokuma,Yenagoa,Nembe,Ogbia,Sagbama,Brass and Southern Ijaw. The state is the smallest in Nigeria by population as of the 2006 census. Being in the Niger Delta,Bayelsa State has a riverine and estuarine setting,with bodies of water within the state preventing the development of significant road infrastructure.
Rilwanu Lukman was a Nigerian engineer who held several ministerial positions in the Nigerian Federal government before becoming Secretary General of OPEC from 1 January 1995 to 31 December 2000. He died on 21 July 2014. On 18 December 2008,Lukman was appointed Minister of Petroleum Resources by Nigerian president Umaru Yar'Adua,holding office until March 2010.

The Engenni people live in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. They are considered to be Edoid based on linguistic grounds. They live in close proximity with Ijaw people. They primarily live in Ahoada west local government area of Rivers state,Nigeria. Although they consider themselves to be Engenni,the Engenni speak an Edoid language. Alagoa (2003) said:“---The penetration of the Niger-Delta by Edoid groups extends to the Epie-Atissa and Engenni of the central and Eastern Niger-Delta----The Epie,along with the Ogbia and other groups of the central and eastern Niger-Delta,are historically united with the Ijaw.”The other groups of the central and eastern Niger-Delta which Professor Ebiegberi Alagoa said that were historically united with the Ijaw,include the Engenni,as shown from his narrative above. The Engenni have close relations with neighbouring Ijaw tribes such as the Zarama and Epie-Atissa.
Nembe is a Local Government Area of Bayelsa State,Nigeria. Its headquarters are in the town of Nembe in the east of the area at 4°32′22″N6°24′01″E The people of Brass,Nembe and Southern Ijaw Councils of Bayelsa State have bemoaned their neglect by oil companies operating in their areas.
Alfred Papapreye Diete-Spiff was the first Military Governor of Rivers State,Nigeria after it was created from part of the old Eastern Region,Nigeria. He held office from May 1967 until July 1975 during the military administration of General Yakubu Gowon. He was also a member of the Supreme Military Council.

The Nembe Kingdom is a traditional state in Niger Delta. It includes the Nembe and Brass Local Government Areas of Bayelsa State,Nigeria. The traditional rulers take the title "Amanyanabo". Today,leadership is split between the Amanyanabos of Ogbolomabiri,Bassambiri,Okpoama,Odioama and Twon Brass.
Ralph Michael Iwowari,or Mein VII,was the Amanyanabo,or traditional ruler of Nembe-Bassambiri,one of the sections of the Nembe Kingdom in Bayelsa State,Nigeria.
The roots of Edumanom Forest Reserve trace back to 1970 when it was singled out as one of the proposed Forest Reserves by the Rivers State Government,a compilation encompassing 11 distinct regions. At that time,the Governor of Rivers State,acting under the authority vested by Section 28 of the Land Use Act,rescinded all prevailing Rights of Occupancy associated with the land enveloping Edumanom Forest Reserve. Subsequently,the Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources,sanctioned by Section 8 of the Forestry Law Cap 55 of the Laws of Eastern Nigeria,1963,officially labeled the region as a forest reserve. The forest reserve derives its name from the Edumanom family in Otuabagi,the entity possessing the largest segment of the reserve.
