Einar Gunnar Bollason (born 6 November 1943) is an Icelandic former basketball player,coach and TV analyst. [1] [2] As a player,he won the Icelandic championship six times with KR. In 2001,he was named to the Icelandic basketball team of the 20th century and the coach of the 20th century by the Icelandic Basketball Association. In 2020,he received the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Falcon from the president of Iceland. [3]
Einar came up through the junior ranks of ÍR and played his first senior games at the age of 15. He later moved to KR where he spent the bulk of his career. [5]
Between 1964 and 1978,Einar played 35 games for the Icelandic national basketball team. [6]
Einar coached the men's national team in 1974–1976,1977,1979–1982 and 1984–1987. During his tenures the team played 133 games,winning 57. [7]
In 2001 Einar was voted to the Icelandic team of the 20th century in basketball,both as a player and a coach. [8]
Einar served as the chairman of the Icelandic Basketball Association from 1973 to 1976. [9]

In 1976,Einar,along with three others,sat innocent for 105 days in solitary confinement after his sister and other suspects in the Guðmundur and Geirfinnur case (Icelandic:Guðmundar- og Geirfinnsmálið) had implicated them to the case. [2] He had been accused falsely by his step-sister,Erla Bolladóttir of having been involved in the case during her confessions. Erla was later sentenced to jail for perjury,as part of the Reykjavik Six,while Einar was released.
Pétur Karl Guðmundsson is an Icelandic former professional basketball player and coach from Reykjavík. Standing 2.18 m (7'2"),weighing 118 kg (260 lb) and playing the center position,Pétur was the first Icelander and one of the first European players ever to play in National Basketball Association (NBA). He was also a member of the Icelandic national basketball team from 1978 to 1992 but missed several years due to FIBA rules banning professional players to play for national teams. In 2001,he was named the Icelandic Player of the 20th century by the Icelandic Basketball Association.
The KR men's basketball team,commonly known as KR or KR Basket,is a professional basketball club based in Reykjavík,Iceland. It is the men's basketball department of Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur multi-sport club. It is the reigning champion of the Úrvalsdeild karla. It has won the Icelandic championship eighteen times,the most national championships in the men's top-tier league history. In 2017 the club played in FIBA Europe Cup for the first time since 2008.
Hrafn Kristjánsson is an Icelandic former basketball coach and player. He was named the Úrvalsdeild Coach of the Year in the 2010–11 season,when he won the Icelandic championship with the KR. As a coach he has also won the Icelandic Basketball Cup two times and Icelandic Division I three times.
The Guðmundur and Geirfinnur case,also known as the Reykjavik Confessions,is a case concerning the disappearances of Guðmundur Einarsson and Geirfinnur Einarsson in 1974 in Iceland. Six people were convicted of their alleged murders on the basis of confessions extracted by the police after intense and lengthy interrogations despite the lack of bodies of the murder victims,witnesses,or any forensic evidence.
Justin Christopher Shouse is an American-Icelandic basketball coach and former player. He won the Icelandic Cup four times and was named the Cup Finals MVP in 2015. He was named the Úrvalsdeild Foreign Player of the year in 2010 and,after becoming a naturalized Icelandic citizen,he was named the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the year in 2012 and 2013. He retired in 2017 as the Úrvalsdeild's all time leader in assists.
Teitur Örlygsson is an Icelandic former professional basketball player and a coach. During his career he won the Icelandic national championships ten times with Njarðvík and the Icelandic Basketball Cup seven times. He spent the 1996–1997 season with Gymnastikos S. Larissas B.C. of the Greek Basketball League.
Finnur Freyr Stefánsson is an Icelandic professional basketball coach. With KR,he won the Icelandic championship five years in a row from 2014 to 2018 and the Icelandic Men's Basketball Cup in 2016 and 2017. He has served as an assistant coach to the Icelandic men's national basketball team from 2014,helping the team to EuroBasket 2015 and EuroBasket 2017.

The 2019–20 Úrvalsdeild karla was the 69th season of the Úrvalsdeild karla,the top tier men's basketball league in Iceland. The season started on 3 October 2019. On 13 March 2020,with each team having one game left,the season was postponed for at least four weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country. On 18 March,the rest of the season was canceled. Fjölnir was relegated and Stjarnan was named divisional champions for having the best record at the time of the cancelation but no national champions would be named for the season.
The 2020–21 Úrvalsdeild karla was the 70th season of the Úrvalsdeild karla,the top tier men's basketball league in Iceland. The season started on 1 October 2020 and ended on 25 June 2021. Þór Þorlákshöfn won its first title by defeating Keflavík 3–1 in the Finals.
