Pétur Karl Guðmundsson is an Icelandic former professional basketball player and coach from Reykjavík. Standing 2.18 m (7'2"),weighing 118 kg (260 lb) and playing the center position,Pétur was the first Icelander and one of the first European players ever to play in National Basketball Association (NBA). He was also a member of the Icelandic national basketball team from 1978 to 1992 but missed several years due to FIBA rules banning professional players to play for national teams. In 2001,he was named the Icelandic Player of the 20th century by the Icelandic Basketball Association.

She was one of the premium defenders during her career,leading the Úrvalsdeild in steals four times.
Darri Freyr Atlason is an Icelandic basketball coach and sports commentator. In 2019,he led Valur women's team to both its first national championship and first Icelandic Cup win. As a player,he won two national championships with KR in 2014 and 2015.
The 2019–20 Úrvalsdeild karla was the 69th season of the Úrvalsdeild karla,the top tier men's basketball league in Iceland. The season started on 3 October 2019. On 13 March 2020,with each team having one game left,the season was postponed for at least four weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic in the country. On 18 March,the rest of the season was canceled. Fjölnir was relegated and Stjarnan was named divisional champions for having the best record at the time of the cancelation but no national champions would be named for the season.
The 2020–21 Úrvalsdeild karla was the 70th season of the Úrvalsdeild karla,the top tier men's basketball league in Iceland. The season started on 1 October 2020 and ended on 25 June 2021. Þór Þorlákshöfn won its first title by defeating Keflavík 3–1 in the Finals.
