Electric Avenue is an annual summer music festival held in February each year in Hagley Park, in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The festival launched on Waitangi Day (6 February) 2015 with local headliners including Shapeshifter, Fat Freddy's Drop, and Ladi6. [1] 8,000 people attended in the first year. [2]
In January 2022, the planned festival on 26 February was cancelled due to an outbreak of the Omicron variant of COVID-19. [3] At the time, it was described as New Zealand's largest one-day music festival, and over 90 percent of tickets had been sold. [4]
The 2015 event was the first of this event and took place on 6 February 2015 and featured artists including Rüfüs Du Sol, Shapeshifter, Fat Freddy's Drop, Dub FX. The Correspondents, State of Mind, Ladi6, AHoriBuzz, Electric Wire Hustle, Cairo Knife Fight, Truth and many more.
The 2016 event took place on 6 February 2016 and featured artists including Thievery Corporation, The Freestylers, The Presets, The Cuban Brothers, Norman Jay MBE, Sneaky Sound System, Boy & Bear, P-Money, The Correspondents, Kora, Katchafire, The Upbeats and many more.
The 2017 event took place on 25 February 2017 and featured artists including Hermitude, Shihad, Dub FX & Tiki Taane, Chali 2na & Krafty Kuts, Shapeshifter, David Dallas, Maala, Safia, Pitch Black, Mt Eden, Ragga Twins, Dub Pistols, My Baby, Cleopold, Summer Thieves, Opiuo, and many more.
The 2018 event took place on 24 February 2018 and featured artists including Dizzie Rascal, Hermitude, Chase & Status (DJ Set), Primal Scream, L.A.B, Confidence Man, Sneaky Sound System, The D4, My Baby, Katchafire, Too Many Zooz, Chronixx, K+Lab, Dillastrate, The Salad Boys, Aaradhna and many more.
The 2019 event took place on 23 February 2019 and featured artists including Netsky, Orbital, Aloe Blacc, Rudimental (DJ Set), Shapeshifter, L.A.B, Riton & Kah-Lo, Client Liaison, JessB, My Baby, David Rodigan, David Dallas, The Correspondents, Leisure, Estère, Aroha & Tali and many more.
The 2020 event took place on 22 February 2020 and featured artists including Pendulum Trinity, Matt Corby, Gang of Youths, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, Parov Stelar Band, Brass Against, Drax Project, Confidence Man, Home Brew, J:Kenzo, Lime Cordiale, Pitch Black, Ragga Twins, Running Touch, Savage, The Black Seeds, Nyxen, The Butlers, The Upbeats and many more.
The 2022 was scheduled to take place on 26 February 2022 but was cancelled due to the Omicron outbreak.
The 2021 event took place on 27 February 2021 and featured artists including Netsky, Benee, L.A.B, Fat Freddy's Drop, Shapeshifter, Synthony, Kora, Scribe & P-Money, Salmonella Dub ft. Tiki Taane, Ladi6, JessB, State of Mind, Sachi Mild Orange, Bootleg Rascal, Chaii, Deadbeat, Bailey Waley, Riiki Reid and many more.
The 2023 event took place on 26 February 2024 and featured artists including Lorde, Flume, Sub Focus, L.A.B, Fat Freddy's Drop, Synthony, Peking Duk, Future Islands, Teeks, Drax Project, Lee Mvtthews, Baker Boy, Client Liaison, Montell2099, Supergroove, Summer Thieves, Dillinja, The Black Seeds, Sachi, Harper Finn, Odd Mob, Pitch Black, Muroki, Sycco and many more.
The 2024 event took place on 24 February 2024 and featured artists including The Chemical Brothers, Six60, Hybrid Minds, L.A.B, Shapeshifter, Synthony No 2., Lime Cordiale, Flight Facilities, Lee Mvtthews, Cosmo's Midnight, ShockOne, KC Lights, Greentea Peng, Luca George, Cassie Henderson, JessB, The Rions, Lady Shaka, Opiuo, Fleetmac Wood, Rei and many more. The 2025 event will take place for the first time on 2 days on 21 and 22 February 2025 and will feature artists such as, The Prodigy, Chase & Status, Wilkinson, Empire of the Sun, Khruangbin, Tones & I, The Kooks, L.A.B, Rudimental, Shapeshifter ft. Ladi6 & Synthony, Kaleo, Peking Duk, Mall Grab, Fat Freddy's Drop, Maribou State, Jordan Rakei, The Jungle Giants, Bag Raiders, DJ Shadow, Ladi6, Coterie, Salute, Isabel LaRosa, Fleetmac Wood and many more.
Salmonella Dub is a dub/drum n bass/reggae/roots band from New Zealand. The band was formed in 1992 by Andrew Penman, Dave Deakins, and Mark Tyler. The band has toured extensively throughout New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.
Fat Freddy's Drop is a New Zealand seven-piece band from Wellington, whose musical style has been characterised as any combination of dub, reggae, soul, jazz, rhythm and blues, and techno. Originally a jam band formed in the late 1990s by musicians from other bands in Wellington, Fat Freddy's Drop gradually became its members' sole focus. Band members continued playing with their other respective groups—The Black Seeds, TrinityRoots, Bongmaster, and others—for much of their 20-year career. Fat Freddy's Drop are known for their improvised live performances. Songs on their studio albums are versions refined over years of playing them live in New Zealand and on tour abroad.
Shapeshifter are a live drum and bass act from New Zealand. They are known for their live shows and blend of heavy soul with drum and bass. They have made appearances at Glastonbury, The Big Chill, Big Day Out, Parklife plus sold-out performances across Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Urban Pasifika is a New Zealand subgenre of hip hop, that developed primarily among Pasifika New Zealanders in South Auckland. Drawn from alternative hip hop and R&B influences, it was quickly blended with Pacific Island or Māori instrumentation and traditional songwriting and singing and rapping in a variety of Polynesian languages, such as Māori, Samoan, Niuean and Tongan. Rhythm and Vines is an annual music festival held at Waiohika Estate vineyard, 11 km (6.8 mi) northwest of Gisborne, New Zealand. The festival began in 2003 and was held for the one day of New Year's Eve until 2008 when it expanded to the three days of 29–31 December.
Tiki Taane is a New Zealand musician, experimentalist, musical activist, producer, and live engineer. He was a member of leading New Zealand band Salmonella Dub but left after eleven years on 1 January 2007 to pursue a solo career. His debut album, Past, Present, Future, was released on 22 October 2007 in New Zealand and has since gone two times platinum, achieving a number one single, "Always on My Mind", which became the first digital single to reach platinum sales and also held the record by staying in the NZ Top 40 Charts for 55 weeks. Taane is also the exclusive live sound engineer for New Zealand drum and bass act Shapeshifter since their first gig in 1999. Taane has also produced multi platinum albums for bands such as Six60, Shapeshifter, Salmonella Dub and Tiki Taane.

Karoline Fuarosa Park-Tamati, known professionally as Ladi6, is a New Zealand recording artist of Samoan descent. She spent six months living in Berlin and touring Europe in both 2010 and 2011. Her debut album Time Is Not Much debuted at number 4 on the New Zealand Top 40 Album chart. and her second album The Liberation Of... debuted at number 6 and was certified gold. Her single "Like Water" was certified platinum in June 2011. She has won many awards, including Best Female Solo Artist and Best Urban Hip Hop Album at the 2011 New Zealand Music Awards and Best Urban/Hip Hop Album at the 2009 New Zealand Music Awards. The current line-up of the wider Ladi6 group is Ladi6, her partner Parks and Julien Dyne.

The Juice TV Awards was an annual New Zealand music video award presentation held by the now defunct New Zealand music video channel Juice TV. The awards were founded in 2001 and initially honoured music videos from both New Zealand and international acts, however in 2004 the awards were limited to New Zealand artists only. Finalists were selected by Juice, with the winners chosen by public vote. No ceremony was held in 2009 and the 2011 awards was the final holding. Juice closed in 2015.
