Happily N'Ever After is a 2006 computer-animated family comedy film directed by Paul J. Bolger, produced by John H. Williams, and written by Rob Moreland. It is inspired by fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen and is loosely based on the 1999 animated German television series Simsala Grimm. The title is the opposite of a stock phrase, happily ever after; the name is contracted with an apostrophe between the N and the E. The film stars the voices of Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze, Jr., Andy Dick, Wallace Shawn, Patrick Warburton, George Carlin, and Sigourney Weaver. This film was one of Carlin's final works before he died. The film was theatrically released in the United States on January 5, 2007, by Lionsgate, and was released on DVD and Blu-ray on May 1, 2007. The film was panned by critics and audiences and was a box office bomb, only earning $38 million worldwide on a production budget of $47 million.

Madagascar is an American computer-animated media franchise owned and produced by DreamWorks Animation. The voices of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Jada Pinkett Smith are featured in the films. It began with the 2005 film Madagascar, the 2008 sequel Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and the third film Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted in 2012. A spin off film featuring the penguins, titled Penguins of Madagascar, was released in 2014. A fourth film, Madagascar 4, was announced for 2018, but has since been removed from its schedule due to the studio's restructuring.
Frank Mosvold is a Norwegian film and television producer. He has a B.S. in economics from Babson College and Master in fine art in film production from Loyola Marymount University. In 1996 Frank Mosvold started his own production company, Kool Produktion AS. He has produced several award-winning shorts, including the Terje Vigen award at the Norwegian Short Film Festival for the film An Accidental Story. In 2004 he begin work on the animated television series together with Tom Petter Hansen and Trond Morten Venaasen. Together they have produced the animated television series Hubert and Sunshine Kathy and its 2020 film adaptation.

Philip Lord and Christopher Miller are an American filmmaking duo. After a meeting at Dartmouth College, they are known for creating the adult animated sitcom Clone High (2002–2003), directing and writing the animated films Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009) and The Lego Movie (2014), as well as directing the live-action comedy film 21 Jump Street (2012) and its sequel, 22 Jump Street (2014). Lord and Miller also won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature as producers of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), which was co-written by Lord, and co-produced the television series The Last Man on Earth (2015–2018) for Fox and Unikitty! (2017–2020) for Cartoon Network.

The film is directed by Matt Peters from a story by Ernie Altbacker and stars Justin Hartley and Anson Mount as Superman and Batman, respectively. The film, set in a separate continuity from the main DC Universe, follows Superman’s descent into madness after being tricked by Joker into killing his pregnant wife Lois Lane and detonating a nuclear weapon that destroys Metropolis. As Superman transforms the Earth into a police state to enforce global peace, Batman forms an underground resistance to oppose Superman and his allies.
