The building was constructed in 1887 for diplomat, attorney, and author Simon Wolf. It's a contributing property to the Dupont Circle Historic District, and valued at $2,266,160. Notable owners have included William F. Aldrich, Thomas H. Anderson, Thomas Leiter (son of Levi Leiter) and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association.
Dupont Circle is a historic roundabout park and neighborhood of Washington, D.C., located in Northwest D.C. The Dupont Circle neighborhood is bounded approximately by 16th Street NW to the east, 22nd Street NW to the west, M Street NW to the south, and Florida Avenue NW to the north. The house was one of several mansions that were built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries around the perimeter of Dupont Circle, a traffic circle and park that was considered a fashionable area at the time.
