Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe (born 29 November 1960) is a Nigerian politician and medical doctor who has served as the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State since 29 May 2019. A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC),he previously worked as a specialist ophthalmologist and has held several public service roles in healthcare and governance. [1]
Akabe was born in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. He attended St Michael’s Primary School in Akwanga and St Joseph’s College in Vom,Plateau State. He earned his medical degree from the University of Jos in 1984,followed by specialist training in ophthalmology at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH). [2]
Akabe started as an ophthalmologist and held positions including head of the Ophthalmology Department at JUTH. He also served as Commissioner for Health of Nasarawa State,and as Sole Administrator of Plateau Hospital before entering full political office. [3]
In 2019,Akabe was sworn in as Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State alongside Governor Abdullahi Sule. [4] In 2022,he was re‑nominated as running mate for the 2023 governorship election by Governor Sule,highlighting his loyalty and competence. [5] In November 2024,he was appointed a member of the National Flood,Erosion,Drought and Desertification Management Council (NFEDDMC) by the National Economic Council. [6]
Akabe has been recognized for his contributions to health and governance. He has been actively involved in infrastructure,youth empowerment,and healthcare reform in Nasarawa State during his tenure. [7]
