Environment

The catchment of the reservoir is 12.86 km2 (4.97 sq mi) large, with a perimeter of 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) and a length of 4,550 metres (14,930 ft). The reservoir suffers from rapid siltation. [2] [3] The lithology of the catchment is Agula shale and a bit of Mekelle Dolerite. [1] Part of the water that could be used for irrigation is lost through seepage; the positive side-effect is that this contributes to groundwater recharge. [4]
