Bell is an incorporated city in Los Angeles County,California,near the center of the former San Antonio Township. Its population was 35,477 at the 2010 census,down from 36,664 in the 2000 census. Bell is located on the west bank of the Los Angeles River and is a suburb of the city of Los Angeles. At 2.5 square miles (6.5 km2),Bell is the thirteenth-smallest city in the United States with a population of at least 25,000.

James Kenneth Hahn is an American lawyer and politician. A Democrat,Hahn was elected the 40th mayor of Los Angeles in 2001. He served until 2005,at which time he was defeated in his bid for re-election. Prior to his term as Mayor,Hahn served in several other capacities for the city of Los Angeles,including deputy city attorney (1975–1979),city controller (1981–1985) and city attorney (1985–2001). Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is a public school district in Los Angeles County,California,United States. It is the largest public school system in California in terms of number of students and the 2nd largest public school district in the United States,with only the New York City Department of Education having a larger student population. During the 2022–2023 school year,LAUSD served 565,479 students,including 11,795 early childhood education students and 27,740 adult students. During the same school year,it had 24,769 teachers and 49,231 other employees. It is the second largest employer in Los Angeles County after the county government. The school district's budget for the 2021–2022 school year was $10.7 billion,increasing to $12.6 billion for the 2022–2023 school year.
The Bell scandal involved the misappropriation of public funds in Bell,California,United States,over a period of several years in the late 2000s. In July 2010,the Los Angeles Times published an investigative article on possible malfeasance in the neighboring city of Maywood,revealing that the city officials of Bell received salaries that were reported as the highest in the nation. Subsequent investigations found atypically high property tax rates,allegations of voter fraud in municipal elections and other irregularities which heightened the ensuing scandal. James Thurman Butts Jr. is an American politician,currently serving as the mayor of Inglewood,California. He rose through the ranks of law enforcement in Inglewood during the 1970s and 1980s,eventually becoming a Deputy Chief. He then worked as the Chief of Police in Santa Monica,California from 1991 to 2006. Butts then took a public safety position with Los Angeles World Airports in 2006. He was elected mayor of Inglewood in 2010 and re-elected in 2014 with an 84% vote. A member of the Democratic Party,Feuer previously served three terms in the California State Assembly,representing the 42nd Assembly District,and as a member of the Los Angeles City Council from 1995 to 2001,representing the 5th Council District.
