Eric Joseph Perrodin (born February 26,1959) [2] is an American politician who served as Mayor of Compton,California from 2001 to 2013. [3]
Perrodin grew up in Compton,California. Soon after graduation from California State University,Dominguez Hills,he began working for the Compton Police Department. While serving as a police officer,he pursued a Juris Doctor degree at Loyola Law School. [4] After 12 years with the department,Perrodin left to become a Deputy District Attorney for Los Angeles County. [3]
In 2001,Perrodin defeated the incumbent mayor,Omar Bradley. He was re-elected in 2005 [3] and 2009. He has the distinction of being Compton's longest-serving mayor.[ citation needed ]
In 2006,after a local paper printed an investigative report relative to a contract granted to one of Perrodin's associates. Following the report,Perrodin allegedly threatened to yank the city's advertising contract with the paper. The threat was probed by the Los Angeles Count District Attorney's office. [5]
A Times review of city records shows Perrodin was absent from city board and commission meetings nearly two-thirds of the time between July 2009 and July 2010. [6]
On June 4,2013,Perrodin was defeated in Compton's municipal election by political newcomer Aja Brown. Brown went on to become the second female mayor (after Doris A. Davis) and the youngest mayor (at the age of 31) ever elected in Compton.

James Kenneth Hahn is an American lawyer and politician. A Democrat,Hahn was elected the 40th mayor of Los Angeles in 2001. He served until 2005,at which time he was defeated in his bid for re-election. The Rampart scandal was a police corruption scandal which unfolded in Los Angeles,California,United States,during the late 1990s and early 2000s. The scandal concerned widespread criminal activity within the Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums (CRASH) anti-gang unit of the Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart Division. More than 70 police officers were initially implicated in various forms of misconduct,including unprovoked shootings and beatings,planting of false evidence,stealing and dealing narcotics,bank robbery,perjury and cover-ups thereof.

The Bell scandal involved the misappropriation of public funds in Bell,California,United States,over a period of several years in the late 2000s. In July 2010,the Los Angeles Times published an investigative article on possible malfeasance in the neighboring city of Maywood,revealing that the city officials of Bell received salaries that were reported as the highest in the nation. Subsequent investigations found atypically high property tax rates,allegations of voter fraud in municipal elections and other irregularities which heightened the ensuing scandal. These and other reports led to widespread criticism and a demand for city officials to resign.
James Thurman Butts Jr. is an American politician,currently serving as the mayor of Inglewood,California. He rose through the ranks of law enforcement in Inglewood during the 1970s and 1980s,eventually becoming a Deputy Chief. He then worked as the Chief of Police in Santa Monica,California from 1991 to 2006. Butts then took a public safety position with Los Angeles World Airports in 2006.
