The International Criminal Court is an intergovernmental organization and international tribunal seated in The Hague,Netherlands. It is the first and only permanent international court with jurisdiction to prosecute individuals for the international crimes of genocide,crimes against humanity,war crimes and the crime of aggression. It is distinct from the International Court of Justice,an organ of the United Nations that hears disputes between states.

United Nations Security Council Resolution 1593,adopted on 31 March 2005,after receiving a report by the International Commission of Inquiry on Darfur,the Council referred the situation in the Darfur region of Sudan to the International Criminal Court (ICC) and required Sudan to co-operate fully. It marked the first time the council had referred a situation to the court,and also compelled a country to co-operate with it.
Ahmed Mohammed Haroun is one of five Sudanese men wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur. Despite international pressure on the government of Sudan to surrender him to the ICC,Haroun served as Sudan's Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs until May 2009 when he was appointed to the governorship of South Kordofan. In September 2007,he was appointed to lead an investigation into human rights violations in Darfur. In July 2013 he resigned as Governor of South Kordofan,and was reappointed by Omar al-Bashir as Governor of North Kordofan. On 1 March 2019,President Omar al-Bashir handed over the running of the country's leading political party,the National Congress,to him. He was arrested in April 2019 by local authorities in Sudan following a coup which overthrew al-Bashir.

The International Commission of Inquiry on Darfur was established pursuant to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1564 (2004),adopted on 18 September 2004. The resolution,passed under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter,urged the Secretary-General to set up an international commission to investigate human rights violations committed in Darfur. The International Criminal Court investigation in Kenya or the situation in the Republic of Kenya was an investigation by the International Criminal Court (ICC) into the responsibility for the 2007–2008 post-election violence in Kenya. The 2007–2008 crisis followed the presidential election that was held on 27 December 2007. The Electoral Commission of Kenya officially declared that the incumbent President Mwai Kibaki was re-elected however supporters of the opposition candidate Raila Odinga accused the government of electoral fraud and rejected the results. A series of protests and demonstrations followed,and fighting—mainly along tribal lines—led to an estimated 1,200 deaths and more than 500,000 people becoming internally displaced.

Alagie Barrow is a Gambian-American soldier and human rights investigator. He served as an officer in the United States Army National Guard from 2001 to 2014 before resigning from and going back to The Gambia,his country of birth. Frustrated and pained by the gross human rights abuses in The Gambia,he would join other Gambian dissidents and soldiers in attempting to overthrow the dictator,Yahya Jammeh,the President of the Gambia,who became president through a coup. Barrow would be charged by the US Government for his role in the coup attempt 2014 Gambian coup d'etat attempt,for which he was sentenced to six months imprisonment in the United States under the Neutrality Act 1794 after he voluntarily turned himself in and refused to cooperate with the American Justice Department calling it a farce. He would go back to Gambia and work as consultant for a few months before being appointed as Director of research and investigations for the Gambian Truth,Reconciliation and Reparation Commission in 2018. The Commission was set up to look into the human rights abuses of the past twenty-two years.
