Essa al-Busmait (born 1 January 1956) is a Bahraini sailor. He competed in the 1996 Summer Olympics. [1]

As of August 2018, Matei is tied for 7th place on the men's high jump outdoor, all time top list, behind Javier Sotomayor, Mutaz Essa Barshim, Patrik Sjöberg, Bohdan Bondarenko, Igor Paklin and Ivan Ukhov. Matei competed at the 1980, 1988 and 1992 Olympics and placed 13th in 1980 and 1992.
Essa Ismail Rashed is a long-distance runner now representing Qatar after his switch from Kenya in 2004. He represented his adopted country at the 2008 Summer Olympics and the World Championships in Athletics in 2005 and 2007. He is coached by the Italian Renato Canova.

Mutaz Essa Barsham is a Qatari track and field athlete who competes in the high jump and is the former Olympic Champion. He is also the former World Champion and second highest jumper of all-time with a personal best of 2.43. He won gold at the 2017 World Championships in London, at the 2019 World Championships in Doha, as well as the 2022 World Championships in Eugene. At the Olympics, Barsham originally won the full set of medals with bronze at the London 2012 Summer Olympics, silver at the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, and shared gold at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. In 2021, his bronze in the London 2012 Summer Olympics was promoted to silver in a three-way tie for second due to disqualification of the original gold medalist, leaving him with two silvers and a gold. His bronze at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics yet again completed his full set of Olympic medals. He was the Asian Indoor and World Junior champion in 2010, and won the high jump gold medals at the 2011 Asian Athletics Championships and 2011 Military World Games. He holds the Asian record in high jump.

The country's participation at London marked its eighth appearance in the Summer Olympics since its début at the 1984 Summer Olympics. The delegation sent by the Qatar Olympic Committee consisted of twelve athletes in athletics, shooting, swimming and table tennis. The 2012 Games marked the first time Qatar sent female athletes to the Olympic Games; following the 2008 Summer Olympics, it had been one of only three countries, along with Saudi Arabia and Brunei, to never have done so.

He finished the race in twenty-second place by nearly two seconds ahead of Spanish long-distance runners Carles Castillejo and Ayad Lamdassen, with a time of 28:11.92.
Samwel Kwaangu Shauri is a Tanzanian long-distance runner. Shauri represented Tanzania at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where he competed for the men's 10,000 metres, along with his compatriots Dickson Marwa and Fabiano Joseph Naasi. He finished the race in twenty-first place by nearly eight seconds behind Qatar's Essa Ismail Rashed, with a time of 28:06.26.

The 2010 Arab Junior Athletics Championships was the fourteenth edition of the international athletics competition for under-20 athletes from Arab countries. It took place between 5–8 May at Cairo Military Academy Stadium in Cairo, Egypt. It was the fourth time that the event was held in the Egyptian capital. A total of 44 athletics events were contested, 22 for men and 22 for women.
