Esther Jackie Anderson (born 13 June 1979) is an Australian actress and model, best known for her role as Charlie Buckton on the Australian soap opera Home and Away from 2008 until 2012. She was nominated for two Gold Logie Awards in 2010 and 2012. After leaving Home and Away, Anderson starred in the NBC television drama Siberia and was a contestant on The Celebrity Apprentice Australia .

Early life

Anderson was born on 13 June 1979 and she grew up in Geelong. [1] Anderson is a model and she lived in Japan for six years, travelling between the country and Europe for work. [2] She appeared in a number of television commercials in Japan, which led her to move to Melbourne to take acting courses, as she wanted to begin acting and presenting. [2]

Career

In 2007, Anderson landed a presenting role on the Victorian version of Australian travel show Postcards . [2] A year later, she secured an audition for television soap opera Home and Away and was cast as police constable Charlie Buckton. [3] Producers introduced a lesbian plot for Charlie and Kate Bell's character Joey Collins to boost the shows ratings. [4] It was Anderson's first big storyline and she was required to work more hours. [5] The storyline was criticised by religious and conservative family groups, [4] and Channel Seven later cut a kiss between the characters. [6] Anderson earned four Logie Award nominations for her work on Home and Away, including two Gold Logie Awards. [7] [8] She quit Home and Away in 2011 and filmed her final scenes in August that year. [9] She moved to Los Angeles for work in 2012. [10]

Anderson stars in short film Breathless as Jodie, a woman in mourning over her deceased child. [2] [11] In August 2012, it was announced Anderson had landed a role in the NBC television drama Siberia , which was filmed in Canada. [12] The series masquerades as a reality show, with the actors using their own names as they play a group of contestants who compete for a cash prize in the Siberian wilderness. [2] Anderson reprised her role as Charlie Buckton in 2013 for "a handful of episodes". [13]

In 2014, Anderson was cast in her first feature film Broken Contract by writer-director James Pentecost. She stars opposite Christopher Morris as Detective Keeling, an internal affairs cop. Broken Contract was filmed in Perth, Australia. [2] The following year, Anderson was a contestant on the fourth season of The Celebrity Apprentice Australia . [14] Anderson made a guest appearance in Netflix series GLOW , and appears in 2019 films Apple Seed and Madness in the Method . [10] In 2021, she appeared in the Channel 9 series Amazing Grace . Anderson made a guest appearance as Dr Sian Caton on the Australian television soap opera Neighbours in June 2022. [16]

Personal life

Anderson was in a relationship with fellow Home and Away actor Conrad Coleby from 2008 until 2010, [17] and with footballer Joel Selwood in 2012. [18] She began dating advertising executive Howard Moggs in December 2014. They got engaged in February 2016, [19] and married in Geelong in February 2017. [20] In April 2018, Anderson announced she was expecting the couple's first child, [21] and she gave birth to their son in August. [22] In April 2022, Anderson confirmed she and Moggs were expecting their second child, [23] and she gave birth to their second son on 28 September 2022. [24]

Home and Away is an Australian television soap opera. It was created by Alan Bateman and commenced broadcast on the Seven Network on 17 January 1988. Bateman came up with the concept of the show during a trip to Kangaroo Point, New South Wales, where he noticed locals were complaining about the construction of a foster home and against the idea of foster children from the city living in the area. The soap opera was initially going to be called Refuge, but the name was changed to the "friendlier" title of Home and Away once production began.

She was characterised as a free spirited and independent girl. Her storylines have consistently followed themes such as romance, unrequited love and rejection. In what has been described as a "shock storyline" Ruby discovered her sister Charlie Buckton was in fact her mother. This had subsequent effects in her character development. She became out of place and confused about her life. It destroyed her trust in Charlie and their relationship never recovered. Todd "Romeo" Smith is a fictional character from the Australian Channel Seven soap opera Home and Away, played by Luke Mitchell. He made his first appearance on 10 September 2009. The character of Romeo is Mitchell's third acting job and he began filming his scenes in May 2009. Romeo is described as being cheeky, funny and confident. His storylines have included his relationships with Annie Campbell and Indi Walker and the introduction of his sister and mother. Romeo and Mitchell have proven popular and Mitchell won "Most Popular New Male Talent" at the 2010 Logie Awards. On 4 November 2012, it was revealed that Mitchell had decided to leave Home and Away. Darryl "Brax" Braxton is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Home and Away, played by Steve Peacocke. He made his first screen appearance during the episode broadcast on 16 February 2011. The character was created and introduced along with his two brothers; Heath and Casey. The trio were nicknamed The River Boys and were inspired by the real life Bra Boys group. When Peacocke learnt about the role of Brax, he initially thought he would not suit the part as he is from the country. However, after learning more about the character, Peacocke successfully auditioned for the role. Peacocke's departure was announced on 1 February 2015 and Brax made a temporary exit on 10 June 2015, before returning on 9 December. He made his final appearance on 7 June 2016.

Casey Braxton is a fictional character from the Australian Channel Seven soap opera Home and Away, played by Lincoln Younes. Casey made his first on-screen appearance on 17 February 2011. Younes was about to go travelling when he auditioned for the role of Casey. He changed his plans upon winning the role. In late 2010 the Seven Network began airing trailers for a new trio of characters known as "The River Boys". The trio consist of Casey and his older half-brothers Darryl and Heath Braxton. The River Boys arrive in Summer Bay from neighbouring town Mangrove River. Casey is characterised as being a "modern day Rebel Without a Cause"; who is intelligent and unsure about what he wants out of life. Younes has described him as the "epitome of teenage angst". The River Boys cause trouble in Summer Bay and producers were inspired by Koby Abberton's Bra Boys in the creation process. Casey is portrayed as wanting to distance himself from their bad reputation; but his anger issues often mar his attempts.

Heath Braxton is a fictional character from the Australian Channel Seven soap opera Home and Away, played by Dan Ewing. He made his first screen appearance during the episode broadcast on 16 February 2011. Ewing confirmed his departure in December 2013 and Heath made his on-screen exit on 29 July 2014, but made a brief appearance on 23 September 2014 for his brother Casey Braxton's funeral. Heath and his wife Bianca Scott made a return in 2016 and departed on 3 February 2017. Ewing reprised the role for one episode on 3 February 2021.
