Fayette County is a county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is located in southwestern Pennsylvania,adjacent to Maryland and West Virginia. As of the 2020 census,the population was 128,804. Its county seat is Uniontown. The county was created on September 26,1783,from part of Westmoreland County and named after the Marquis de Lafayette.
Melissa Ann Hart is an American lawyer and politician. She was a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives from 2001 to 2007,representing western Pennsylvania's 4th congressional district. She was the first Republican woman to represent Pennsylvania at the federal level. Prior to her service in Congress,Hart served in the Pennsylvania Senate,where she chaired the finance committee. She was the first Republican woman elected to serve a full term in the Pennsylvania Senate in 1990 when she was 28 years old. In her first run for office,Hart defeated an incumbent in a senate district that included parts of Allegheny,Westmoreland and Armstrong counties. In the 2006 midterm elections,Hart lost her bid for re-election to Democrat Jason Altmire. She challenged Altmire again in the 2008 election,but was defeated again.
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review,also known as "the Trib," is the second largest daily newspaper serving metropolitan Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania,in the United States. Although it transitioned to an all-digital format on December 1,2016,it remains the second largest daily in the state,with nearly one million unique page views a month. Founded on August 22,1811,as the Greensburg Gazette and in 1889 consolidated with several papers into the Greensburg Tribune-Review,the paper circulated only in the eastern suburban counties of Westmoreland and parts of Indiana and Fayette until May 1992,when it began serving all of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area after a strike at the two Pittsburgh dailies,the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Pittsburgh Press,deprived the city of a newspaper for several months.

In 1866,he was nominated and confirmed as a brevet major general of volunteers to rank from April 1,1865.

From US 22 to US 219,the highway carries the name of the Buffalo-Pittsburgh Highway;from US 22 to PA 56,it is also known as the Patrick J. Stapleton Highway;near Uniontown,it bears the name George C. Marshall Parkway.

Kim L. Ward is an American politician who served as acting lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania and currently serves as President pro tempore of the Pennsylvania Senate. She represents the 39th Senatorial District which covers the central portions of Westmoreland County,Pennsylvania. Following the resignation of Lieutenant Governor John Fetterman,Ward became acting lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania on January 3,2023,and served until January 17,2023. She is the first female president pro tempore of the Pennsylvania Senate. She was succeeded by Austin Davis as Lieutenant Governor.

A special election for Pennsylvania's 18th congressional district was held on March 13,2018,following the resignation of Republican Representative Tim Murphy. Murphy,who held the seat since January 3,2003,declared his intent to resign on October 5,2017,and vacated his seat on October 21 that year. Democrat Conor Lamb defeated Republican Rick Saccone 49.86% to 49.53%. Saccone conceded the race eight days after the election.

Pennsylvania voters chose electors to represent them in the Electoral College via a popular vote,pitting the Republican Party's nominee,President Donald Trump,and running mate Vice President Mike Pence against Democratic Party nominee,former Vice President Joe Biden,and his running mate California Senator Kamala Harris. Pennsylvania has 20 electoral votes in the Electoral College.
An election for the United States Senate was held by the Pennsylvania General Assembly beginning on January 17,1899,to fill the seat then held by Matthew Quay for a six-year term beginning March 4,1899. Quay was a candidate for re-election,but he was damaged by a pending indictment for involvement in financial irregularities with state money;his trial took place during the three months that the legislature attempted to resolve the Senate deadlock,and he was acquitted the day it adjourned,having failed to elect a senator. Quay was appointed to the Senate seat by the governor,but the Senate refused to seat him on the grounds that the governor lacked the constitutional authority to make the selection,and the seat remained vacant until the next meeting of the legislature,in 1901,when Quay was elected.
