Anthropology is the scientific study of humanity, concerned with human behavior, human biology, cultures, societies, and linguistics, in both the present and past, including past human species. Social anthropology studies patterns of behavior, while cultural anthropology studies cultural meaning, including norms and values. A portmanteau term sociocultural anthropology is commonly used today. Linguistic anthropology studies how language influences social life. Biological or physical anthropology studies the biological development of humans.
The American Anthropological Association (AAA) is an organization of scholars and practitioners in the field of anthropology. With 10,000 members, the association, based in Arlington, Virginia, includes archaeologists, cultural anthropologists, biological anthropologists, linguistic anthropologists, linguists, medical anthropologists and applied anthropologists in universities and colleges, research institutions, government agencies, museums, corporations and non-profits throughout the world. The AAA publishes more than 20 peer-reviewed scholarly journals, available in print and online through AnthroSource. The AAA was founded in 1902.

The International Society for Ethnology and Folklore is a professional association of scholars in the fields of ethnology, folklore studies, and cultural anthropology based in Amsterdam at the Meertens Institute. The goal of SIEF is to create professional networks between its scholars and their institutes and to stimulate research in general. To accomplish that every two years an international scholarly congress is organised and a General Assembly is held. Within its framework various special interest working groups are active: on cultural heritage, religion, rituality, cultural analysis, etc.
Aleksandar Bošković is Professor of Social Anthropology at the PPGAS, Federal University of the North Rio Grande in Natal (Brazil), who wrote or edited nineteen books and several hundred articles on history and theory of anthropology, mostly from a transactionalist and comparative perspective. In 2018/2019 he was a Research Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Lyon. Together with his colleague and economics professor John Hamman, Bošković organized a two-day conference about rationality, at the University of Lyon, on 10–11 April 2019. He is currently editor of the series "Anthropology's Ancestors," published by Berghahn Books, and co-editor of the Anthropological Journal of European Cultures. Since 1 October 2019 he is Senior Research Scientist at the Institute of Archaeology in Belgrade.

Sarah Pink is a British-born social scientist, ethnographer and social anthropologist, now based in Australia, known for her work using visual research methods such as photography, images, video and other media for ethnographic research in digital media and new technologies. She has an international reputation for her work in visual ethnography and her book Doing Visual Ethnography, first published in 2001 and now in its 4th edition, is used in anthropology, sociology, cultural studies, photographic studies and media studies. She has designed or undertaken ethnographic research in UK, Spain, Australia, Sweden, Brazil and Indonesia.
Sabine Strasser is an Austrian social anthropologist who specializes in migration and gender issues. She evaluates the political nature of transnational relationships, particularly with regard to diversity and multiculturalism. She was one of the first researchers hired when the University of Vienna's founded its Inter-University Coordination Center of Women's Studies in 1993. She has taught at the University of Vienna and the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. Since 2013, she has served as a professor at the University of Bern.
Panas Karampampas is a social anthropologist at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, Athens, while in the past he has worked at the Università Ca’ Foscari, Venezia, at the University of Peloponnese, the University of Thessaly and at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales – EHESS, Paris. Previously he was a guest lecturer in the Department of Social Anthropology at the University of St. Andrews, where he also completed his PhD and a visiting scholar at the Faculty of Social Sciences of the National Research University - Higher School of Economics, Moscow. Since 2018, he is a co-convenor of the EASA Mediterraneanist Network (MedNet), and since 2022 he is a co-convenor of the EASA Europeanist network. He was also nominated and elected as a Founding Board Member of the Association of Social Anthropologists of Greece.
