Eva Andrea Allemann [1] abbreviated as Evi Allemann ( /ˈæləmən/ ;born 16 July 1978) is a Swiss politician who currently serves as member of the Executive Council of Bern for the Social Democratic Party since 2018. [2] She previously served on the National Council (Switzerland) between 2003 and 2018. [3]
In October 2023,she announced candidacy in the 2023 Swiss federal election,to succeed Alain Berset in the Federal Council (Switzerland). [4] [5]
In 2024,she was elected president of the Executive Council of Bern. [6]
In April 1998,Allemann was elected to the Grand Council of Bern and was the youngest female member ever elected in a Swiss Cantonal Council. [7] As a member of the Justice Committee,she mainly focused on schooling and youth policy.
In 2003,she was elected to the National Council with 56,118 votes after she led a campaign alongside her Young Socialists running mates Mirjam Minder,Patric Bhend and Nasha Gagnebin. [8] At the age of 25,she became the youngest member of the 47th Swiss Parliament. [9] She first sat in the Legal Affairs Committees,then in the Transports and Telecommunications Committees and then in the Security Policy Committees.
Even though her party lost votes at the 2007 federal election,Allemann was re-elected with 85,332 votes. [10] She continued seating in the Transports and Telecommunications Committees and the Security Policy Committee. [11]
Allemann lives in Bern and works as a lawyer.
She was elected as the chairwoman of the VCS Verkehrs-Club der Schweiz on 20 April 2013. [12]
On 25 March 2018 she was elected to the Executive Council of Bern with 99,902 votes and took the direction of Justice,Communal Affairs and Church Affairs. [13]
The Federal Council is the federal cabinet of the Swiss Confederation. Its seven members also serve as the collective head of state and government of Switzerland. Since after World War II,the Federal Council is by convention a permanent grand coalition government composed of representatives of the country's major parties and language regions.
The Council of States is the upper house of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland,and the lower house being the National Council. It comprises 46 members.
Alain Berset is a Swiss politician who served as a Member of the Swiss Federal Council from 2012 to 2023. A member of the Social Democratic Party (SP/PS),he headed the Federal Department of Home Affairs from when he took office. Berset served as President of the Swiss Confederation for 2018 and 2023.
Ulrich "Ueli" Giezendanner is a Swiss businessman and former politician who served as a member of the National Council (Switzerland) for the Swiss People's Party from 1991 to 2019. He previously also served on the Grand Council of Aargau from 1989 to 1991. He remains a controlling shareholder in Giezendanner Group and serves as deputy chairman of KPT Health Insurance in Bern,Switzerland.
An election for all seven members of the Federal Council,the government of Switzerland,was held on 14 December 2011,following the federal election on 23 October 2011. Micheline Calmy-Rey announced she would not run for re-election to the council. According to a traditional informal convention,the successor has to come from the French-speaking or Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. The candidates for her post announced by their respective cantonal sections are Alain Berset (Fribourg),Pierre-Yves Maillard (Vaud),Stéphane Rossini (Valais),and Marina Carobbio (Ticino).
Daniel Reuwen Jositsch is a Swiss attorney and politician who currently serves on the Council of States (Switzerland) for the Social Democratic Party representing the Canton of Zürich since 2015. He previously served on the National Council (Switzerland) from 2007 to 2015. He briefly served on the Cantonal Council of Zürich before resigning from the post in the fall of 2007. In 2022 and 2023 he declared candidacy for Federal Council (Switzerland) but both times was not officially nominated by his party.
An election for all seven members of the Federal Council,the Government of Switzerland,was held on 9 December 2015,following the federal election on 19 October 2015,for the 2016–2020 term.
Regula Rytz is a Swiss historian and politician who served on the National Council (Switzerland) for the Green Party from 2011 to 2022. She concurrently served as co-president of the Green Party of Switzerland from 2012 to 2016 and as president from 2016 to 2020.
Viola Patricia Amherd is a Swiss politician who has served as a Member of the Swiss Federal Council since 2019,and as President of the Swiss Confederation for 2024 since 1 January. She is the head of the Federal Department of Defence,Civil Protection and Sport. Marina Carobbio Guscetti is a Swiss politician of the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland (SP/PS) of which she has been the vice-chairwoman since 1 March 2008. She was the president of the National Council in 2018–2019 and became a Councillor of States in December 2019.
Petra Christina Antonella Gössi known as Petra Gössi is a Swiss politician. She was a member of the National Council from 2011 to 2023 for The Liberals and was elected to the Council of States in 2023. Previously she served on the Cantonal Council of Schwyz between 2004 and 2011. Since 2006,she has been a member of the management of The Liberals and between 2012 and 2016 was president of her political party.
Élisabeth Baume-Schneider is a Swiss politician of the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland (SP) and a current member of the Federal Council. She was elected on 7 December 2022,the first elected member from the Canton of Jura.
A by-election to the Swiss Federal Council was held on 20 September 2017,after federal councillor Didier Burkhalter (FDP-NE) announced he would leave the Council effective 31 October 2017. The by-election resulted in the election of Ignazio Cassis (FDP-TI),resulting in no change in the partisan composition of the council.
Thomas Aeschi is a Swiss businessman,politician and former banker. He currently serves as a member of the National Council (Switzerland) for the Swiss People's Party since 2011. He previously served on the Cantonal Council of Zug from 2010 to 2012.
By-elections to the Swiss Federal Council were held on 7 December 2022,after federal councillors Ueli Maurer (SVP-ZH) and Simonetta Sommaruga (SP-BE) announced they would leave the Council effective 31 December of the same year. The parliament elected Albert Rösti and Élisabeth Baume-Schneider respectively to replace them.
An election for all seven members of the Federal Council,Switzerland's government,were held on 13 December 2023 for the 2024–2028 term. It followed the federal election held a month earlier and partly depended on its results.
