Evolve Mixed Martial Arts is a chain of martial arts academies. Founded by Chatri Sityodtong, it opened in January 2009. [1] The gym includes several former and reigning UFC and ONE Championship champions, including Demetrious Johnson, Rafael Dos Anjos, Shinya Aoki, Angela Lee, Marcus Almeida and more, on its roster.
According to Yahoo! Sports Singapore, Evolve MMA has the largest roster of world champions across multiple martial arts sports. [2] It has world champions in Muay Thai, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts, Boxing, Wrestling and No-Gi Grappling among others. [3] [4]
There are currently five Evolve MMA academies: Evolve Far East Square, Evolve KINEX, Evolve Orchard Central, Evolve Clarke Quay and Evolve Star Vista in Singapore. There is also Evolve University, the largest online university for martial arts. [5] Evolve MMA is affiliated to Sityodtong Muay Thai. [6] Chatri Sityodtong has stated that he wants to open an Evolve MMA camp in every major Asian city. [7]
Several prominent fighters coach, train and/or represent the Evolve Fight Team in major organisations such as the Ultimate Fighting Championship and ONE Championship. [8]
Brazilian Top Team (BTT) is an academy and team specialized in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and mixed martial arts. It was established in April 2000 by Murilo Bustamante, Ricardo Libório, Mário Sperry and Luis Roberto Duarte, former members of the Carlson Gracie Academy, to develop and create new training techniques for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, submission grappling and mixed martial arts.
Shinya Aoki is a Japanese mixed martial artist, professional wrestler and grappler currently competing in ONE Championship's Welterweight division. He also competes in DDT Pro-Wrestling where he is a former three-time DDT Extreme Champion. A professional competitor since 2003, he is noted for being the DREAM Lightweight Champion, former two time ONE Lightweight World Champion, former WAMMA Lightweight Champion and former Shooto Welterweight Champion. Aoki is an A-class Shootist and BJJ black belt, both under his long-term mentor Yuki Nakai, as well as a black belt Judoka. As of 2008, Aoki, along with DEEP champion Masakazu Imanari, and Sengoku champion Satoru Kitaoka have founded the "Nippon Top Team" as a group of elite Japanese grapplers competing in MMA. As well as his MMA credentials, Aoki has garnered several submission grappling accolades including two All Japan Jiu-Jitsu Championships, a Japan Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship, a Budo Open Championship, and an ADCC Japan Championship. As of October 6, 2022, he is ranked #5 in the ONE Lightweight rankings.
Black House is a mixed martial arts fighting team and gym based out of Brazil. Opened on November 27, 2006, Black House was started by former Brazilian Top Team member and black belt Carlos "Carlão" Barreto, Jorge Guimaraes and Rogerio Camoes. Guimaraes acted as the team's manager and Camoes was in charge of the team's training.
Bibiano Fernandes da Silva Neto is a Brazilian professional mixed martial artist and black belt Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) practitioner. He is currently signed to ONE Championship, where he is a former two-time ONE Bantamweight Champion and holds the record for most title fight wins (11) and is tied for most consecutive title defenses (7). As of March 6, 2023, he is ranked #3 in the ONE Bantamweight rankings.
Chatri Trisiripisal, known by the ring names Chatri Sityodtong and Yodchatri Sityodtong, is a Thai entrepreneur and martial arts instructor based in Singapore.
Demetrious Johnson is an American mixed martial artist. He currently competes in ONE Championship, where he is the current ONE Flyweight Champion. He is the inaugural and former UFC Flyweight Champion. Known for his quick striking and elusive movement, Johnson co-holds the record for the latest finish in UFC history with a submission win at 4:59 of the fifth round against Kyoji Horiguchi. Johnson also holds the record for most finishes in UFC flyweight history with 7. Johnson is widely regarded as one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time and is even considered to be the greatest mixed martial arts fighter of all time.
Eduard Ayangwa Folayang is a Filipino mixed martial artist and wushu practitioner who fights in ONE Championship, where he is a two-time ONE Lightweight World Champion. He also competed for Universal Reality Combat Championship, where he was the last welterweight champion.
Nong-O Gaiyanghadao, formerly known as Nong-O Sit Or and Nong-O Gaiyanghadaogym, and now known as Nong-O Hama MuayThai or simply known as Nong-O Hama, is a Muay Thai fighter currently signed to ONE Championship and is the former and inaugural ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion. As of April 26, 2023, he is ranked #1 and #3 respectively in the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai and Kickboxing rankings.
One Championship is a multinational combat sports promotion founded on 14 July 2011 by Chatri Sityodtong and Victor Cui. Originally focused on mixed martial arts (MMA), One has since expanded to regularly hold events featuring Muay Thai, kickboxing, and submission grappling bouts, while also previously promoting boxing and Lethwei matches. One held its first event on 3 September 2011 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, and has since held over 200 events across Asia.
Leandro Issa is a mixed martial artist from Brazil. Issa is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and has won numerous BJJ competitions and tournaments including the Mundials and the Brazilian national championships. He is a member of the Evolve MMA team and is based in Singapore.
Namsaknoi Yudthagarngamtorn is a retired Muay Thai fighter from Thailand. He holds one of the highest winning percentages, and one of the longest reigns as a Lumpinee Stadium Champion in history, remaining undefeated for the 135 lbs title between 2000–2006. He held wins over Muay Thai legends such as Saenchai, Samkor Kiatmontep, Kaolan Kaovichit, and Neungpichit Sityodtong. Namsaknoi was the camp senior of international Muay Thai superstar Buakaw when they both trained at Por Pramuk Camp. He spent 6 years in Singapore where he was an instructor to the Evolve Fight Team at Evolve Mixed Martial Arts, coaching world renowned MMA fighters such as Rafael Dos Anjos, Tarec Saffiedine, and Shinya Aoki.
Angela Seung Ju Pucci, also known as Angela Lee Pucci, is a Canadian-born American former professional mixed martial artist. She competed in the atomweight and strawweight divisions of ONE Championship, where she was the inaugural ONE Atomweight World Champion. Undefeated at atomweight, Lee successfully defended the belt five times before vacating the title when she retired from the sport in September 2023. She holds the record for longest-championship reign in ONE history at more than seven years.
Rodtang Jitmuangnon is a Thai Muay Thai fighter. He currently competes in ONE Championship and is the reigning ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion. Jitmuangnon is also a former Omnoi Stadium 130 lb Champion and MAX Muay Thai 125 lb Champion.
Christian Lee is a Canadian-born American mixed martial artist who competes in the featherweight, lightweight and welterweight divisions of ONE Championship. He is the current and two-time ONE Lightweight World Champion, as well as the current ONE Welterweight World Champion. Currently holding both belts simultaneously, Lee is the fourth two-division champion in ONE history and holds the promotion's records for most wins (17), most finishes (16), and most knockouts (12). He was also the winner of the 2019 ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix.
