The Tristar Gym is a mixed martial arts training centre located in Le Triangle Borough in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. [2] Instructors at the gym include Firas Zahabi, Conrad Pla and Georges St-Pierre. [3] Tristar Gym is one of the top professional MMA training camps.

History

The gym was established in 1991 by Conrad Pla, Michel Lavallée and Ron Di Cecco. [4] The three owners was the basis for the name of the gym. [4] Alexandre Choko joined the gym as a fighter in 1992 and eventually bought the gym in 2001. [4] In 2008 he sold the gym to Firas Zahabi. [5] [6] Zahabi had become Georges St-Pierre’s main coach after GSP's loss to Matt Serra (UFC 69). [7] In addition to being the current owner Zahabi is also the head coach at the gym. [7] In 2021, owner Firas Zahabi detailed how his gym had been regularly harassed by the Montreal police force during the COVID-19 pandemic. [8]

The American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) is a mixed martial arts gym based in San Jose, California. It is one of the pioneering schools of mixed martial arts (MMA). In 2014, AKA opened the AKA Thailand gym in Phuket, Thailand. Prominent trainers include Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master Leandro Vieira, Bob Cook, Derek Yuen, Javier Mendez, and Andy Fong. Conrad Pla is a Canadian actor and former professional kickboxer. He is best known for founding Tristar Gym and starring in the Canadian television series ReGenesis.
