Ewa Rybak (born 22 December 1974) is a retired javelin thrower from Poland. She set her personal best (60.76 metres) on 11 July 1999 in Palma de Mallorca, winning the gold medal in the women's javelin throw event at the 1999 Summer Universiade.

Petra Meier is a retired German track and field athlete who competed in the javelin throw. In the final years of his career, he returned to the United States and won a medal at the 1999 Pan American Games.
Uwe Hohn is a retired German track and field athlete who competed in the javelin throw. He is the only athlete to throw a javelin 100 metres or more, with his world record of 104.80 m. A new javelin design was implemented in 1986 and the records had to be restarted, thus Hohn's mark became an "eternal world record". He coached Indian track and field athlete Neeraj Chopra, who won the gold in the men's javelin throw at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo.

On 11 June 1972 Ewa Gryziecka from Poland broke the javelin throw world record with a throw of 62.70m only to have Ruth Fuchs break that record on the same day with a throw of 65.06m. In 1972 Fuchs was the strong favorite heading in the Olympics. Kate Schmidt took the early lead on the first throw, but this was soon passed by the favorite on the second throw. She ended up topping her own mark two more time in rounds four and five. Fuchs would go one and set the new javelin world record in 1973, 1974 and 1976.
