Excellent Cadaver is an American film and television production company founded by actress Jennifer Lawrence in 2018. [1] [2] [3] The company has produced the drama Causeway (2022) and the comedy No Hard Feelings (2023), both starring Lawrence.

History

In 2018, Excellent Cadaver was founded by actress Jennifer Lawrence. Lawrence produces with her producing partner, Justine Ciarrocchi. [1]

In October 2018, it was announced that the company had signed a first-look deal with Makeready, who will finance and produce independently with Excellent Cadaver, or through Makeready's finance and production deals with Universal Pictures and Entertainment One. [1] [2]

Filmmaker Don Herzfeldt was approached by Lawrence to create an animated logo for the company. The logo was featured in the company's first feature film, Causeway . [4] In January 2023, Causeway went on to receive the company's first Academy Award nomination for Brian Tyree Henry in the Best Supporting Actor category. [5]

In 2023, the company’s second feature film, No Hard Feelings , grossed over $89 million at the box office and earned Lawrence a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. [6] That same year, the company's first documentary and third production, Bread and Roses directed by Afghan filmmaker Sahra Mani, about the 2021 Taliban takeover’s effects on women premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival to critical acclaim. [7]

In 2024, Lawrence, alongside Chelsea and Hillary Clinton, produced the documentary Zurawski v Texas about the eponymous court case surrounding reproductive rights in Texas set to premiere at the 51st Telluride Film Festival. [8] The company's next feature will be Lynne Ramsay's dark comedy Die, My Love starring Lawrence, Robert Pattinson, Sissy Spacek, LaKeith Stanfield, and Nick Nolte, produced alongside by Martin Scorsese. [9]

Bread and Roses is a 2023 American documentary film about women in Afghanistan and the role of the Taliban. It was directed and produced by Sahra Mani. It was co-produced by Jennifer Lawrence and Justine Ciarrocchi for their company Excellent Cadaver after Lawrence saw news coverage of the 2021 Taliban offensive as U.S. troops withdrew. The documentary features footage from Sharifa, an ex-government employee forced indoors, Zahra, a woman organizing activists in her dentistry practice, and Taranom, who seeks refuge in Pakistan. It debuted at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, and was released on Apple TV+ on June 21, 2024.

Die, My Love is an upcoming American dark comedy horror film directed by Lynne Ramsay and co-written by Enda Walsh. It is an adaptation of the 2017 novel by Ariana Harwicz about a new mother in the French countryside who develops postpartum depression and enters psychosis. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, with the former producing through her production company Excellent Cadaver. This will mark Ramsay's first film since You Were Never Really Here (2017) and fifth feature overall.
